Good morning everyone,

I have an IKEA Metod kitchen with white fronts that, after several years of heavy use, now shows significant stains in many areas. In particular, grease, dried food residues, and some discoloration from frequent contact and cooking splashes are a real problem for me. I am looking for an effective but gentle method to clean these surfaces without causing damage.

Could someone please share tips on the best cleaning products to use? I am especially interested in how to deal with stubborn stains without damaging the surface or affecting the appearance and finish. Are there any specific cleaning techniques or preferred household remedies that have proven effective? So far, I have only used mild all-purpose cleaners, but they hardly help with tough, dried-on stains.

Thank you in advance for your help and experiences!

Important: Don’t scrub too hard! I once got too rough and ended up with scratches 🙁

Oh no, I definitely want to avoid that! Thanks for the warning.

I’m also wondering if there are differences in cleaning matte and glossy surfaces? My kitchen is mostly matte, but some parts are more glossy. Should the cleaning method be different for those?

Yes, there are indeed. Glossy surfaces are often more sensitive to scratches and streaks. Therefore, you should be especially careful with glossy fronts, using only soft microfiber cloths and mild cleaners.

Matte surfaces can better conceal dirt in some areas but are also delicate. They are more prone to losing their matte finish if scrubbed too hard or cleaned with inappropriate products.

Summary:
- Avoid abrasive cleaners on both surface types
- Do not wipe glossy fronts too wet; better to use a lightly damp cloth
- Always clean matte surfaces gently and avoid using washcloths or sponges with rough textures

This way, you’ll be on the safe side.
