ronmeo7Hello everyone,
I recently equipped my kitchen with IKEA Metod fronts featuring glass panels and am now facing the challenge of cleaning the glass surfaces effectively without leaving visible streaks or smudges.
My previous attempts using regular glass cleaners and microfiber cloths often resulted in unpleasant streaks, which are especially noticeable on the glossy glass. Therefore, I’m interested in how others clean their IKEA Metod glass fronts, which products they use, and what specific steps must be taken to achieve a streak-free finish.
Are there any special cleaning agents or techniques that work particularly well? Or perhaps things to definitely avoid in order to prevent damage or an unattractive appearance on the surface?
I look forward to your tested tips and tricks!

Hello ronmeo7,
for cleaning IKEA Metod glass fronts, it is recommended to use a mild alcohol-based glass cleaner, as it effectively removes grease and fingerprints without leaving any residue.
The following method has proven effective:
- First, wipe the surface with a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth to remove loose dust.
- Spray the glass cleaner sparingly, not directly onto the front, but onto the cloth.
- Clean the glass surface using circular motions.
- Finally, dry-polish the surface with a second clean microfiber cloth.
It is important not to use paper towels, as they often leave lint behind. Also, avoid harsh cleaners containing ammonia, as they could damage the front’s sealing.
Avoiding excess liquid also helps prevent water spots and streaks.
I hope this helps you.

I also always use two different microfiber cloths: one for cleaning, and one for polishing afterwards.
Don’t stress yourself, it really works well if you are patient and use the right tools. The gentle polishing at the end also makes a difference.
Good luck!
Hello everyone,
To achieve streak-free cleaning on IKEA Metod glass fronts, it is important to consider the physical properties of the glass and the surface coating. The glass fronts are apparently treated with a dirt-repellent coating designed for easy maintenance, but it is also sensitive to mechanical stress and harsh chemicals.
I recommend the following detailed approach:
- Preparation: First, remove surface dust with a dry microfiber cloth to avoid scratches caused by dirt particles.
- Cleaning agents: Use mild glass cleaners without ammonia and avoid abrasive products. Alcohol-based sprays are effective because they evaporate quickly and leave little residue. Alternatively, prepare a solution of distilled water and a small amount of isopropanol in approximately a 70:30 ratio.
- Cleaning technique: Spray the cleaner only onto the microfiber cloth, not directly onto the glass surface, to prevent excess moisture from entering joints and seals.
- Cloth quality: Use high-quality microfiber cloths with a dense fiber structure that are lint-free. Use separate cloths for cleaning and polishing.
- Polishing: After cleaning, polish the surface with a dry, clean microfiber cloth using consistent, overlapping motions. Make sure the cloth remains clean to avoid redistributing residues.
- Aftercare: If recommended by the manufacturer, apply a special glass sealant to provide additional surface protection.
If streaks still appear despite careful cleaning, this could be due to residues in the cleaner or high humidity during drying. In such cases, cleaning the window with the door open or in a well-ventilated room can help.
Do you have information about which cleaning agents you have used so far? That might help to identify the cause more precisely.
