Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of planning and installing an IKEA Metod kitchen unit in a way that is both ergonomically practical and visually appealing. I would like to know which specific steps and principles you recommend when assembling a Metod kitchen to ensure an optimal work height, sensible storage layout, and a modern design at the same time. It is especially important to me how to best adapt the typical IKEA components, which often have standardized dimensions, to individual user needs and what experience you have with design elements or combinations that are both functional and attractive. Which extras or additions are really worth it? It would be great if you could share your tips and suggestions as specifically as possible, along with your reasons. Thanks in advance!

I would like to know how you design the interior layout of the Metod base cabinets.I prefer when everything has its place – a modular cutlery tray, storage for kitchen utensils at the side, knives in a drawer insert with a magnetic holder. For waste, I would recommend a three-compartment system that is easy to access during work. This keeps the kitchen area both neat and functional.

Waste sorting can be implemented in special pull-out drawers under the countertopAre there any studies or practical experiences that demonstrate waste sorting in pull-out drawers is more ergonomic than using separate trash bins? I question the benefits in terms of hygiene and ease of use.

Are there any studies or practical insights proving that waste separation in pull-out drawers is more ergonomic than separate trash bins?I am not aware of any specific studies, but practical experience shows:
- Waste separation in pull-out drawers is ergonomic because you don’t have to bend down or reach around.
- It prevents trash bins from being left out in the open and spoiling the appearance.
- Hygiene improves when all bins are well-sealed and easy to remove.
For these reasons, kitchen designers recommend it as a standard solution.
Thank you very much for the detailed answers! The idea of waste separation in the pull-out unit sounds convincing, and the interior layout suggestions are very helpful for my detailed planning. I am now wondering about your experiences with the stability and durability of the fronts in the Metod series, especially with dark surfaces. Are there any special care requirements or visual pitfalls to avoid? The design and ergonomics are great, but if the fronts show scratches or fingerprints easily, that can be frustrating in the long run.
