SopukarHello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of planning and installing an IKEA Metod kitchen unit in a way that is both ergonomically practical and visually appealing. I would like to know which specific steps and principles you recommend when assembling a Metod kitchen to ensure an optimal work height, sensible storage layout, and a modern design at the same time. It is especially important to me how to best adapt the typical IKEA components, which often have standardized dimensions, to individual user needs and what experience you have with design elements or combinations that are both functional and attractive. Which extras or additions are really worth it? It would be great if you could share your tips and suggestions as specifically as possible, along with your reasons. Thanks in advance!

As a general rule, when planning an IKEA Metod kitchen layout, you should first determine the optimal working height, as it strongly depends on your height. It is recommended to position it about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) below the elbow when standing. The standard IKEA plinth height can be adjusted by varying the feet or plinth height, or by planning a countertop with a special thickness.
Additionally:
- Use inner drawers and pull-outs with soft-close function for comfort.
- Opt for tall cabinets for pantry and appliance integration to keep the worktop clear.
- A simple, consistent color scheme is usually more appealing, with accents on handles or the countertop.
Also, ensure there is enough clearance between the kitchen unit and the opposite row or furniture; a minimum of 110 cm (43 inches) is recommended.

Thanks for the initial suggestions! Adjusting the working height especially sounds logical. How exactly can the plinth height be adjusted with Metod without compromising stability? And what do you recommend if you want the kitchen to look modern and high-quality but don’t want to invest too much in additional accessories? For example, is a quartz composite countertop advisable for this kitchen series? Or are there more affordable alternatives that are still durable?
