Anni30Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to complete my IKEA Metod base cabinets and am wondering about the best way to attach the kickboards neatly and securely. It is especially important to me that the kickboards sit straight, hold firmly, and have no visible screws or fasteners, so the overall appearance is not disturbed.
I am particularly interested in which attachment methods you prefer for Metod kickboards—whether it is better to glue, screw, or use other types of clips—and if there are any special preparations on the wall or cabinet that I should definitely consider.
Additionally, I would appreciate tips on how to neatly compensate for uneven floors or small gaps between the wall and kickboard, so that the final result looks really high-quality.
Thank you in advance for your advice!

For the Metod baseboards, I usually use the supplied clips, which are screwed onto the cabinet base. The baseboard then simply clicks into place, providing a secure hold and a neat appearance.
If the floor is uneven, small wedges or shims can be used under the baseboards to ensure they sit straight.

Hello Anni30,
Regarding your question: IKEA offers a specific fastening system with clip brackets for the Metod plinths. Small brackets are screwed onto the base cabinets, into which the plinths can be snapped. This method is effective because it holds the plinth firmly while still allowing for removal without damaging the plinths.
It is important to attach the brackets at regular intervals – approximately every 50 to 60 centimeters (20 to 24 inches) – and to ensure the plinth is properly positioned before fastening.
If you have uneven floors, I recommend leveling them out using thin wooden wedges or self-adhesive felt pads so that no gaps remain visible. Adhesive is less commonly used for Metod plinths and does not always hold reliably. I avoid screwing directly through the plinth itself to maintain its appearance.
I hope this helps you!

- Check for floor level before installation and, if necessary, use wooden shims or plastic feet.
- Cut baseboard corners precisely, either with miters or butt joints, to achieve clean transitions.
- Do not install brackets too low, so the baseboard aligns flush with the lower cabinets.
- Before mounting, always test the snap-in mechanism at one point to ensure consistent locking for all brackets.
These steps ensure a stable, clean installation without visible fasteners and prevent wobbling or unsightly gaps.

especially to ensure that the moldings fit flush later, hold securely, and have no visible screws or fasteners to avoid disturbing the overall appearance. That’s a good point you raise. To achieve this, the IKEA proprietary clip system is truly the best option. Before installation, the floor surface should be thoroughly cleaned and any unevenness must be leveled out to prevent gaps from forming.
I would also recommend checking the baseboard with a spirit level before snapping it into place and, if it tilts slightly, correcting it with small shims made of cardboard or plastic. The advantage of the clip system is that it allows slight adjustments without having to dismantle everything.
If the wall is very uneven, the brackets can be adjusted with small washers – this ensures a precise fit despite minor wall irregularities.
An alternative for stronger adhesion is heavy-duty mounting adhesives, but these are less flexible for later adjustments and can leave residues.
