I recently purchased glass fronts from the Ikea Metod kitchen series and am now wondering how to clean them properly without damaging the surface or leaving unsightly streaks. The glass fronts look very delicate, and I definitely want to avoid using harsh cleaning agents or the wrong cloths that could affect their appearance.
My previous attempts with standard glass cleaners and microfiber cloths sometimes left streaks and small smudges that were difficult to remove. I’m also unsure whether I should use stronger products more often or if there are gentler yet still effective alternatives.
Does anyone have experience or recommendations on the best way to clean the Ikea Metod glass fronts? Are there any tips for application or particular products that should be avoided?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

For cleaning the Ikea Metod glass fronts, simply use warm water with a little dish soap. This recommendation is basically correct, but I would like to add that the glass fronts are usually made of toughened safety glass (tempered glass), which is resistant but can still be scratched by unsuitable materials. Therefore:
- Use only soft microfiber cloths
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh solvents (acetone, alcohol)
- For heavier dirt, a diluted vinegar-water mixture can be used, followed by thorough rinsing with clean water
- Always dry the glass after cleaning to prevent water spots
This way, the glass will stay clear and the edges undamaged.

I think approaching cleaning with a smile makes it more enjoyable 😉 Just kidding, but honestly, this mixture really works wonders – and your glass surfaces will shine like new afterwards.
Here’s a little trick from my side: If you often have fingerprints, try dry polishing with a glass or window cloth. It gives the final shine without streaks! But of course, it’s best to first remove the usual dirt with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
Patience pays off, especially with such beautiful surfaces.
