I am planning to modify an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe to significantly increase the existing storage space and make it more functional. I am particularly interested in ways to optimize the interior layout—such as adding extra shelves, drawer inserts, or clever space-saving solutions like pull-outs or integrated boxes.

Additionally, I would like to know if there are practical solutions that not only make the wardrobe look high-quality but also keep it stable, especially when it is heavily loaded. What methods or modifications have you tried on Hemnes wardrobes to gain more storage space while keeping them functional and durable? Tips on sourcing materials or tools that are especially suitable for this are also very welcome.

The easiest option is to use additional shelves made of multiplex plywood or MDF, which you can insert directly into the existing drilled holes. For better organization, practical boxes and drawer inserts from the accessory range are helpful. Make sure not to exceed the load capacity of the shelves.

Hello! The Hemnes wardrobe is great for various customizations. First, I recommend measuring the interior dimensions accurately so you can cut the materials to fit precisely. Additional shelves made from birch or spruce plywood can be easily installed using dowels and screws—you’ll need a drill with a small bit, a spirit level, and a pencil for marking.

Pull-out baskets or drawer inserts also increase storage space by making better vertical use of the height, especially in larger wardrobes.

These kinds of inserts are perfect for that. Another tip: You can also equip the doors with hooks for small items, which creates extra storage for belts, scarves, or jewelry. This way, you stay flexible and can customize the wardrobe to your needs.

Hey, I’ve upgraded my Hemnes wardrobe with a few simple tricks 😉

- Added extra wooden slats as dividers to break the interior into smaller sections.
- Got some small drawer inserts to give the loose items a proper place.
- Hung flat organizers inside the doors, very handy for keys and small bits and pieces!

That really helped me a lot – space-saving and organized. Good luck with your makeover, with a bit of creativity you can get a lot out of it!

If you really need more storage space, a renovation with additional shelves and drawers can help. You can either buy prefabricated inserts or build them yourself. Important: Measure everything carefully and avoid placing heavy items on shelves that are too thin.

Great to see this topic so lively! 😄 Personally, I like it when storage space is not only increased but also more versatile. My favorite idea is to use a mix of fixed shelves and pull-out drawer boxes. This way, you get a clear overview quickly while still having space for taller items.

Keep in mind: More flexibility in organizing often means more effort to implement. So it’s better to remodel step by step and test along the way. Don’t hesitate to do some DIY assembling – it’s definitely worth it! Have fun building and redesigning! 😊
