Hello everyone, I am currently planning a modification of my IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and want to be as well prepared as possible. My specific question is: which tools are really necessary to carry out the modification efficiently and without major issues? This involves not only disassembling and reassembling the wardrobe but also possible adjustments like shortening parts or modifying the shelves. I have some experience using screwdrivers and cordless drills, but I’m unsure if I also need, for example, a jigsaw or other power tools. Perhaps someone here has done similar modifications and can recommend a list of the essential tools, including a description of what each tool is used for?

For the Hemnes renovation, usually screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead), a cordless drill, and a utility knife are sufficient. If you want to shorten something, a handsaw or jigsaw is useful.

Hello Carolina, I’m happy to help you! For modifying the IKEA Hemnes cabinet, you should have a good cordless drill and the right bits, as well as a spirit level and a tape measure on hand. If you want to customize parts, such as shortening the doors or shelves, a jigsaw with a fine blade is ideal, along with sandpaper or an orbital sander for the edges. Also, consider using clamps to hold parts firmly in place while gluing or cutting. And if you need to drill holes, a variable-speed drill is recommended to ensure precise work. With these tools, you’ll be very well prepared!

I can only agree with Svenja7. It’s also important to have a good set of screwdrivers, as IKEA fittings often use special connecting elements. A drill with variable speed makes screwing easier to handle. If you want to work on the wood surfaces, sandpaper in various grits is helpful. Gloves and safety glasses should not be missing either, especially when sawing and drilling.

A Hemnes conversion is really exciting! 😊 I think especially for small adjustments, a cordless screwdriver is great because it’s more flexible than just using hand tools. Also important: a fine saw blade for the jigsaw to keep the edges clean and prevent splintering! Proper preparation makes the work much easier, so please don’t try it without a spirit level and clamps – they are real helpers! Good luck!!

For an efficient implementation of the IKEA Hemnes conversion, it is recommended to use the following tools: - Cordless screwdriver with various bits (Phillips, Torx, flathead) - Jigsaw with a fine blade for cutting or trimming - Tape measure for precise measurement and alignment - Spirit level to ensure accurate installation - Clamps to stabilize during gluing or adjustments - Sandpaper with a grit of 120–240 for finishing cut edges - Drill with variable speed for precise drilling and screwing This list covers both assembly and necessary modifications without the need to purchase unnecessary tools.
