Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install LED strips for my IKEA Platsa shelving unit and have some questions about the process. Specifically, I would like to know how to safely and correctly install the LED strips myself without damaging the electronics or creating any risks. It would be especially helpful to have guidance or tips on wiring, connecting them to the power supply, and advice on securing the strips inside the shelving unit. Are there any specific tools I need or important technical details I should be aware of? I would appreciate practical tips from anyone who has done this before or is familiar with IKEA’s LED systems. Thanks in advance for the support!

Hey jenake, this sounds like an exciting project! The IKEA PLATSA light strips are actually quite easy to install yourself if you have some basic DIY skills 🙂. The most important thing is to use the original power supply unit and not just connect any random adapter to the strips. For the wiring, I recommend first loosely laying out everything, then connecting the individual strips, and only at the end plugging in the power. Basically, you'll just need a screwdriver and maybe some cable ties to secure everything neatly. If you enjoy DIY, just give it a try—it’s really fun, and the lighting really enhances the shelving! If you want, I can provide a more detailed step-by-step guide!

Best practice: connect the transformer, link the light strips, secure them with clips, and route the cables safely. Never connect directly to 230 V (230 V) – always use the IKEA transformer. That’s it.

The safe and functional installation of the IKEA PLATSA light strips requires the following steps: - Use only the power adapter supplied by IKEA to ensure voltage and current are within the specifications of the LED strips. - Plan the placement of the strips before installation to keep cable routing discreet and protected. - Use the included mounting accessories, such as clips or adhesive tapes, to securely fix the strips in place. - Avoid visible cable cross-sections by using cable channels or routing cables along the furniture structure. - Test the electronics before completing the full installation to detect any faults or defects early. Tools are limited to screwdrivers and, if needed, plastic holders that can be cut with a utility knife. Wiring outside the specified connectors is not recommended, as this may affect warranty and safety.

Hello jenake! I installed my PLATSA trims last month and can say it’s not as complicated as you might think 😄. The important thing is to take your time and proceed step by step. I first laid out all the trims and then connected them with the plugs – kind of like a small cable puzzle. The included clips are great for securely attaching the trims; make sure they hold firmly, otherwise they might sag over time, and that doesn’t look very neat. One more tip: if you route the cables underneath the shelf, they’ll be barely visible later on. And don’t forget to turn on the power only after everything is connected! Nothing can go wrong then 😊.

Exactly, Jackson, those clips are really invaluable! Also, remember not to pull the cables too tight, or you might damage the connection. In my last installation, I even used small cable ties to keep everything neat, and the shelf looks much tidier. And if you’re unsure about the voltage: the IKEA transformer makes it really easy and safe!
