Hello everyone,

I recently installed the Ikea Metod kitchen series and am generally very satisfied with the design and functionality. However, I am concerned about cleaning the kitchen cabinets. My question is: How can I make cleaning Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets as easy and efficient as possible, without having to spend a lot of effort or use special cleaning products every time?

I am especially interested in practical tips for preventing dirt build-up, choosing suitable cleaning agents, and, if possible, advice on appropriate surfaces or additions (e.g., protective films or special handles) that make cleaning easier.

Maybe someone here already has experience or knows clever tricks to minimize the effort. Thanks in advance for any helpful answers!

Hey Bigu44,

first of all, it’s great that you ended up with Metod – it’s really a solid system! 😊

For cleaning: I swear by using a microfiber cloth, some warm water, and mild dish soap for cabinets like these. Avoid anything too harsh, or the surface will wear out quickly.

Handles tend to collect a lot of dirt, so it really helps to wipe them regularly and clean the gaps with a small brush or an old toothbrush.

You might also consider using protective films – they are transparent and easy to wipe off with a damp cloth if something splashes on them.

But be careful with aggressive cleaners, as they can make the surface dull! It’s better to clean often with water and some manual effort than to scrub with chemicals. 😉

In short:
- Use microfiber
- Mild cleaners only, no abrasives
- Wipe off stains immediately
- Do not leave wet cloths lying around
This will keep the surface in good condition for a long time.

Hello Bigu44,

I would like to respond to your question in a more structured way and suggest a simple cleaning routine tailored specifically for Metod cabinet fronts:

1. Prevention: Avoid splash water and greasy residues directly on the fronts by handling kitchen tasks carefully, for example by wiping spills quickly.

2. Daily cleaning: Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth without any chemical additives. This removes dust and light dirt without damaging the surface.

3. Weekly cleaning: Use a mild dish detergent mixed with water, wipe the surfaces, and dry them immediately with a soft cloth. Avoid leaving moisture standing, as it can damage the paint or laminate.

4. For tougher stains: A vinegar-water mixture (1:1) can help dissolve grease, but be sure to test it first on an inconspicuous area!

5. Don’t forget the handles: Metod handles often use screw or click systems – avoid loosening the screws during cleaning to prevent bending! A soft toothbrush is ideal for cleaning gaps.

6. Protective films: These can be helpful if you want to preserve the original look, but they should be checked and cleaned regularly.

Conclusion: A combination of regular gentle cleaning and good microfiber cloths makes maintenance easier.

If you like, I can also provide you with a list of cleaning products that I find gentle and effective.

Microfiber cloth plus mild soap, that’s all you need.
Wipe the surfaces after cooking to prevent stubborn stains.

I understand that this topic can be annoying – after all, the kitchen is meant to be a place where you feel comfortable, not one that requires constant cleaning.

What helped me was incorporating cleaning into my daily routine. A quick wipe right after cooking takes very little time and saves you from hours of scrubbing later on.

This really made a difference for me. And honestly, the small steps add up.

I also found it helpful to quickly wipe the handles every other day – they tend to collect more dirt than you might expect.
