Hello everyone,
I recently installed the Ikea Metod kitchen series and am generally very satisfied with the design and functionality. However, I am concerned about cleaning the kitchen cabinets. My question is: How can I make cleaning Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets as easy and efficient as possible, without having to spend a lot of effort or use special cleaning products every time?
I am especially interested in practical tips for preventing dirt build-up, choosing suitable cleaning agents, and, if possible, advice on appropriate surfaces or additions (e.g., protective films or special handles) that make cleaning easier.
Maybe someone here already has experience or knows clever tricks to minimize the effort. Thanks in advance for any helpful answers!

[@LAURE-TA] I would definitely like to see your list of recommended cleaning products, sounds useful.
I’m also curious if there are any differences between the Metod surfaces, for example, if matte fronts are easier to maintain than high gloss or wood-effect? And what about the handles, are they really that sensitive when cleaning?
I have some cabinets with high gloss fronts and I’m currently putting off cleaning them because I’m worried about streaks or damage.

Hello Bigu44,
Here is a brief overview of cleaning products I personally recommend for Metod fronts:
- Mild dish soap (pH-neutral) in warm water is your go-to solution.
- Vinegar water (diluted 1:1) for stubborn lime scale or grease, but never leave it on plastic surfaces for long.
- Special furniture cleaners for laminate or coated surfaces work well, but always follow the instructions!
About the surfaces:
- High gloss fronts show dirt more quickly but can be cleaned effectively with microfiber cloths and specific gloss cleaners.
- Matte surfaces are somewhat more resistant to streaks but are more prone to grease stains, which should be removed immediately.
- Wood-look (melamine or real wood) surfaces generally require more care; do not leave water standing, use damp cloths only briefly, and always dry immediately.
Handles:
- Metal and plastic handles react differently. Metal can show stains or fingerprints; clean with a damp cloth and polish occasionally.
- Plastic handles are usually easier to maintain but beware of harsh cleaners that can dull their finish.
For high gloss fronts, you can use special microfiber cloths designed for glass or displays to avoid streaks.
Important: Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach, or harsh all-purpose cleaners.
I hope this helps!

High-gloss fronts look really sleek, but cleaning them isn’t always as easy as with matte surfaces. I like to use glass cleaner (without alcohol, so nothing dulls) and a soft cloth.
If you get streaks, just polish in circular motions—that usually works well.
A little tip: occasionally put a few drops of baby oil on a cloth and gently wipe the front. This adds a nice shine and makes the surface a bit more resistant to fingerprints. But use it sparingly, or it can get sticky. 😉
I clean handles simply with soapy water and an old toothbrush; it’s quick and makes them look like new again.
