Hello everyone, I am about to start assembling my Ikea Metod kitchen and want to avoid common mistakes that often occur during this process from the beginning. Are there any proven methods I should especially keep in mind, particularly regarding the correct alignment of the cabinets, securing them to the wall, and integrating the countertop? Experiences with uneven floors or how the different modules work together would also be helpful. Who has systematically identified sources of errors here and can offer tips on how to avoid them, in order to achieve a stable and durable result in the end?

My floor actually has a slight slope – about 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) difference over 3 meters (10 feet).

This can be easily compensated using the adjustable feet of the Metod cabinets; however, after leveling, it is advisable to additionally secure them to prevent any sinking over time. It is recommended to place felt or rubber pads under the feet to better distribute the load and compensate for unevenness in the floor. If the slope is particularly pronounced, you can install a right-angled support frame made of wooden battens as a substructure to ensure perfect leveling. Make sure to use a longer spirit level or laser level to achieve a completely horizontal surface. This setup also greatly simplifies the later attachment of the countertop.

One additional tip regarding wall mounting: It’s often underestimated that walls are not perfectly vertical. The Metod kitchen hanging system allows for some angle adjustment. Before tightening the screws completely, you should calibrate the hanger with multiple measurements. If you fasten it too early, the cabinet might hang crookedly, and you won’t be able to align the cabinet boxes flush with each other. Therefore, always hang them provisionally first, check, adjust if necessary, and then secure.

That is true, but I have noticed that some users tend to screw in faster due to time pressure, which can lead to errors in the overall assembly. My question is, how often do you check the wall with a level when installing a wall-mounted cabinet? There is also advice to support the base assembly with wooden blocks first and then check for any settling—so whether the method of “temporary hanging” is always practical. Do you think the Ikea installation instructions are realistic enough at this point, or does anyone have more practical tips?

Important: Fix the wall mounting only after all cabinets have been aligned. Wooden blocks make sense to prevent settling. Check multiple times with a spirit level to avoid later adjustments or unsightly joints.

I wonder if we are getting too caught up in details that Ikea deliberately keeps simple to allow laypeople an easy assembly. Of course, everything runs optimized with professionals, but shouldn’t we also ask whether investing a lot of effort in a possibly mediocre piece of furniture is really worth it? Many swear by modularity, but doesn’t that sometimes conflict with individual precision? You have to expect a bit of give in any affordable kitchen, right? I’m curious who here truly aims for millimeter-perfect precision and whether that isn’t overkill for a Metod.
