Hello everyone, I am about to start assembling my Ikea Metod kitchen and want to avoid common mistakes that often occur during this process from the beginning. Are there any proven methods I should especially keep in mind, particularly regarding the correct alignment of the cabinets, securing them to the wall, and integrating the countertop? Experiences with uneven floors or how the different modules work together would also be helpful. Who has systematically identified sources of errors here and can offer tips on how to avoid them, in order to achieve a stable and durable result in the end?

A structured approach is essential when assembling the Metod kitchen. First, all parts should be checked for completeness to avoid interruptions later on. It is also important to measure the walls accurately and check the floor for unevenness. Using a spirit level is strongly recommended to align the cabinets precisely. When attaching to the wall, make sure to use appropriate anchors and screws for the specific wall type, especially for drywall (plasterboard) or concrete. The countertop should not be screwed down prematurely, allowing for adjustments in case of slight fitting inaccuracies.

Great that you’re preparing so thoroughly! 🙂 When I was assembling mine last time, I also had issues with the cabinet doors because the hinges weren’t properly adjusted. My advice: take your time for fine-tuning the doors – it really makes a big difference for everyday use! And don’t worry if something doesn’t fit perfectly at first; with patience, everything will turn out well! 👍

Pre-drill the walls using a hammer drill for better anchoring of the dowels. Be sure to level the cabinets with a spirit level. Install the countertop last to avoid alignment issues.

Assembling a Metod kitchen involves several potential pitfalls that can be minimized during the planning stage:

- Before assembling the furniture, it is advisable to check the room for dimensional accuracy, especially right angles and wall straightness. Even slight deviations can cause modular fitting issues during installation.
- The feet of the Metod base cabinets are adjustable but should be precisely aligned to reduce future stress on screws and joints.
- Wall fastening requires appropriate anchors; for concrete walls, I recommend using special heavy-duty anchors to increase stability. For thin drywall partitions, reinforcing with wooden battens is advisable.
- When installing multiple cabinets side by side, careful attention must be paid to gluing or connecting them using the supplied fittings. This step is often insufficiently done, which leads to instability.
- Important: Attach the countertop only after the base cabinets are completely assembled. Due to settling and slight adjustments to the cabinets, the countertop will not fit properly if fixed too early.
- Finally, verify the alignment of the wall cabinets using a laser level or a high-quality spirit level. Be sure to accommodate any uneven walls by leveling with shims if necessary.

Always level cabinets with a spirit level.

Thanks, Le_kin, that sounds very practical. My floor actually has a slight slope – about 1.5cm (0.6 inches) difference over 3 meters (10 feet). How do you handle the base cabinets in this case to ensure they still stand straight and the countertop fits properly? Is adjusting the feet enough, or should you also use wooden shims or other aids?
