Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble an IKEA Brimnes bed and have a specific question that’s causing me some uncertainty: How common are the pitfalls or typical issues when assembling this piece of furniture?
I have assembled a few IKEA furniture items before, but this time I want to avoid mistakes as much as possible and am looking for practical experience, especially regarding tricky areas. What should you pay special attention to, which parts often cause problems, and where do you need to be particularly careful to avoid errors in assembly, misalignment, or difficulties during installation?
Thanks for your insights and any practical tips!

All right, thanks Jan31!
I thought I might be able to manage it on my own, but if the risk increases, I will definitely get some support.
Just to ask the group again: How about the time frame? How long did it take you on average?
Has anyone ever spent more than 2 hours on the assembly, or was it usually faster?

I assembled the BRIMNES bed together with my girlfriend, and it took us about 1.5 hours, including short breaks.
The great thing is: if you take your time and work carefully, everything goes smoothly.
But yes, the drawers and the rail adjustments are really the tricky part. It’s important to follow the instructions precisely.
Remember: patience is key! 😎

Thank you vin_leo, that sounds realistic.
One last question: according to many, installing the drawers seems to be the most challenging part. Does anyone have tips or tricks on how to best adjust the drawer slides so that everything runs smoothly and quietly without sticking?
Are there also potential material quality issues to check in advance, such as bent slides or faulty rollers?

Kloplo, drawer installation is actually the most common source of errors.
My practical tip:
- First, visually inspect all runners and rollers for damage or deformation.
- When fitting the runners, make sure they are clean and aligned parallel to the edge.
- Do not fasten them fully right away; fix them loosely so you can still make fine adjustments.
- Tighten everything firmly only at the end.
This will help you avoid frequent jamming or misalignment.
If a drawer still feels stiff, check again the exact position of the runners and whether they sit properly. Often, a slight misalignment is the cause.

Can you specify exactly where you had issues with the fit?Yes, specifically the joints at the top and bottom ends of the frame were initially misaligned for me. This was not only due to the component itself but also because I tightened a screw too early, which caused tension in the wood.

Don’t fully tighten the screws right away; instead, secure them so they can still move slightly,That’s exactly the key point. Many underestimate how much the whole piece can warp if you fix it in place before everything fits comfortably.
The combination of careful screwing and constant alignment checks is essential.
