Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble an IKEA Brimnes bed and have a specific question that’s causing me some uncertainty: How common are the pitfalls or typical issues when assembling this piece of furniture?

I have assembled a few IKEA furniture items before, but this time I want to avoid mistakes as much as possible and am looking for practical experience, especially regarding tricky areas. What should you pay special attention to, which parts often cause problems, and where do you need to be particularly careful to avoid errors in assembly, misalignment, or difficulties during installation?

Thanks for your insights and any practical tips!

Hey Kloplo,

I assembled the BRIMNES bed a few months ago and can tell you: the pitfalls are manageable, but there are a few things you should definitely keep in mind 😊

- First: The instructions are pretty clear, but you should really sort all the parts beforehand.
- Second: When assembling the bed frame, pay close attention to the exact alignment, otherwise the drawer might get stuck later.
- Third: The screws and plugs included are solid, but sometimes the pre-drilled holes are not precise enough.

So I’d say with a bit of patience, it goes quite well. I didn’t spend more than half an hour puzzling over it. Good luck!

I would like to offer a somewhat more critical perspective here.

Just because the instructions seem clear doesn’t mean the potential sources of error are minor. I have noticed, especially with BRIMNES, that the fit isn’t always perfect – this can lead to parts being screwed together under tension, which may cause issues with the furniture over time.

Furthermore, it is often underestimated how much a seemingly small detail, like a screw inserted incorrectly, can affect the overall outcome. Has anyone had experience with this? Or have all possible problem areas really been thoroughly checked here?

So, I assembled the BRIMNES bed for my son last year and actually found it quite straightforward. Of course, the drawers need to be aligned properly, otherwise they squeak or get stuck. But with a bit of care, you can manage it 🙂

Important: It’s best to work with two people, as doing it alone can be frustrating, especially when you have to first get the parts into the right position.

Funny enough, I felt like I read the instructions a dozen times, but in the end, experience is what really counts. Don’t panic over small difficulties!

Hello Kloplo,

I took the liberty of systematically summarizing the potential pitfalls with the BRIMNES bed to help organize the topic a bit:

1. Preparation: Sort all the parts and check them against the parts list. Missing or incorrect parts will cause problems later on.

2. Screws & Dowels: Use the supplied screws and pay attention to the correct insertion depth – overtightening can damage the wood, while too loose won’t hold anything securely.

3. Alignment: Double-check that all parts fit flush. In particular, the side panels and the junction of the slatted bed base support are critical.

4. Drawers: The runners must be installed precisely; misaligned drawers are a common stumbling block.

5. Finishing: After assembly, it’s best to let it rest for a few hours, then check once more that everything is firmly in place.

If you like, I can also write you a short checklist.

Best regards!

Thanks for the initial feedback! The comments about the fitting accuracy and the drawers are especially interesting.

Can you specify exactly where you encountered issues with the fitting accuracy? At which steps was the tension the most problematic?
I’d like to understand whether working more precisely can completely prevent these problems, or if the issues are mainly due to the components themselves.

Also: Is it strongly recommended to have a second person during assembly, or can the BRIMNES be assembled alone without too much difficulty?
