Hello everyone, I am currently looking into repairing IKEA Brimnes drawers. Specifically, I am searching for well-structured and easy-to-understand guides that explain how to fix common issues—such as drawers sticking, misaligned runners, or damaged drawer bottoms—in a targeted way. I am particularly interested in step-by-step instructions that address specific challenges related to this model and mention any necessary tools or replacement parts. Does anyone have experience or know of detailed guides, preferably with tips for making the process as simple as possible? I want to extend the drawers’ lifespan and avoid unnecessary replacements.

An interesting approach you’re taking. However, I wonder how detailed IKEA furniture instructions really are. With Brimnes drawers, the problem often lies in the low-cost materials and simple construction. Usually, the manufacturer doesn’t provide spare parts, which makes sustainable repairs difficult. Therefore, my question is: Have you checked whether original compatible replacement parts for the runners and bottoms are available, or if improvised solutions make more sense? A well-structured guide alone won’t help if the components are not obtainable in the end.

Hey tejuku, I think it’s great that you want to save your Brimnes drawers! 🍀 In my experience, Ikea models can sometimes be tricky, but with a bit of patience, you can usually get a lot done. For misaligned drawers, adjusting the slides or placing a small shim under the track often helps. If necessary, an appropriate lubricant can fix sticking issues. As for tools, you usually just need a screwdriver, possibly an Allen key, and a bit of finesse.

Yes, I have searched for replacement parts at IKEA itself, but the selection is very limited. Official replacement parts for drawer bottoms are hardly available, more so for the guide rails (rollers and metal rails), which can be ordered separately. Here, I believe that refurbishing or replacing the mechanics is usually more practical than full replacements for the wooden parts. Alternatively, I am also open to improvised solutions using items from the hardware store if they hold up in the long term.

I can gladly provide a brief guide based on my own repair of the Brimnes drawers.

1. Removing the drawer: Pull it out completely and release the clips on the sides to remove the drawer.

2. Inspecting the drawer slides: Often, the rollers are not properly seated or are dirty. Clean them thoroughly and check for any sticking.

3. Replacing the rollers: Replacement rollers are often available at hardware stores. Pay attention to the size and axle length.

4. Reinforcing the drawer bottom: For sagging bottoms, you can cut thin plywood panels and glue them from underneath.

5. Reassemble in reverse order. Make sure the drawer runs smoothly and fits securely in the slides.

Common mistakes include not removing the locking clips, which makes removal difficult, and neglecting to clean the slides, which can lead to further damage.

Thanks for the tip, I experienced exactly that with a drawer. It took me quite some time to understand the clip mechanism. Your idea of reinforcing the bottom is good since the original bottom is relatively thin. Do you recommend a specific thickness that remains sturdy but doesn’t make the drawer too heavy? Also, I’m interested in which type of glue works best, especially considering possible future repairs.
