Good evening everyone
I’m starting a small collection thread here for photos and progress updates on our second building project.
We’ve already moved to the Palatinate region to be closer to the construction site. Now we’re watching eagerly and happily as our (hopefully final) dream home takes shape near family.
One big challenge still ahead of us is the facade design. I really love the Nordic style with brickwork and mullioned windows. That won’t be possible here for two reasons: firstly, no one here can do bricklaying, and secondly, it would stand out too much. We will be going with a rendered facade. How to design the colors of the facade and windows to still create some country house / cottage charm is currently still a work in progress mentally.
Otherwise, I’m sharing our plans here and how it will eventually be built.
The support pillar marked near the kitchen island could be removed for a small extra cost, so that will be gone.
The room for “garden equipment” under the garage will get a partition wall for structural reasons.
It won’t be fully finished living space like in the house, but underfloor heating will be installed, along with a lockable door and a window. It’s meant to store garden tools but also some of the building services equipment, since the utility room (HAR) is quite small, and maybe be used as a party room.
We had three construction companies in the final selection. In the end, we chose the “doer” – a builder recommended to us here by friends and family. No website, no smartphone, but he is on site every day himself working in overalls. He has a very good reputation in this area and now rarely builds single-family homes. We were a bit lucky through personal connections and a very friendly initial phone call to get our foot in the door. So far we are very satisfied with this choice.

However, the connections were positioned so high on the wall (41 cm (16 inches) instead of 35 cm (14 inches) above the finished floor level) that they were effectively located behind the dishwasher instead of behind the cabinet. Is this due to the old issue with (parapet, etc.) height specifications missing the clarification of whether the measurement is before or after the finished surface, or whether it includes VAT (value-added tax) or not?

It’s probably more a case of "something goes wrong on every construction project." 🙂 The installation plan from the kitchen showroom was available during the structural shell phase, and it already showed 35cm (14 inches). If they had measured from the unfinished floor level, the connections would have been too low, not too high.
I assume the plumber simply made a mistake during the structural shell phase.
The kitchen is installed (except for one cabinet that was missing).
The imperfections in the floor are hard to spot with the naked eye. We showed them to the flooring installer, and he will fill them in again. I asked him to show me how to do it right away since there probably won’t be the last imperfections. =)
And the shower area in the downstairs bathroom with toilet is currently being tiled. I’m excited and relieved. This is the moment when the 3D plans and sketches are transformed into the real house. Now that everything is coming together, it looks truly beautiful and exactly as we had hoped.
I also have some great photos of the upstairs entrance area and the nicely constructed pre-wall in the shower bathroom (I’m curious how this will be received here in the forum). But I’d prefer to post those once everything is completely finished. =D

So beautiful!!! And that amazing window 😱 Is it fully fixed glazing, or can it be opened anywhere? The kitchen looks really great! But I’m wondering, where is the oven? Will it go in the cupboard that’s still missing? Yes, the window is huge, I love it too. It is fixed glazing. At the moment, it looks a bit odd because the mullions clash with the scaffolding outside. I’ll post more photos after we’ve moved in, hopefully it will look better then.
The oven is hidden on the other side of the island. We didn’t have space in the tall cabinet because we went with the crazy idea of wanting two dishwashers. That made us quite famous at the kitchen studio. On the phone, the manager said, “Oh yes – you’re the ones with the two dishwashers!” 😀
