Hello forum,

we are now planning a new kitchen with IKEA.
One run 260cm (102 inches), no upper cabinets.
One block (refrigerator, oven, pantry cabinet).
An island 160x100cm (63x39 inches) with an induction cooktop.
Appliances are not from IKEA.

Now my questions:

What load can the feet under the cabinets support?
Can I put a 3cm (1¼ inch) thick granite countertop on top, or do you think that’s too heavy?

I would also consider the IKEA quartz countertop, but it doesn’t have a flush cutout, and I wouldn’t be able to use the drawer under the cooktop anymore.

One more question about the island:
I will cover the sides with panels, but where the panels meet in the middle there will still be a gap.
Has anyone found a way to avoid this? I mean, without it looking like the island consists of two cabinets placed next to each other?

Best regards

What load can I expect the feet under the cabinets to bear?

Maximum load per leg: 125 kg (275 lbs)

So, per cabinet, that is 500 kg (1100 lbs). For a base cabinet 80 cm (31 inches) wide, the countertop would weigh around 40 kg (88 lbs), so no problem.
I cover the sides of the cabinet on the left and right with the side panels, but there is still a gap in the middle where the panels meet.

Unfortunately, there are no wider side panels than 60 cm (24 inches), probably not in the successor to the Faktum series either. I might consider installing a custom-made panel in a contrasting color, like those available from companies such as beptum.

Hello,
thanks for the quick reply.
Then I don’t have any issues with the granite countertops.
However, the panels from betum are quite expensive.
I’ve also thought about having the side panels made from the same granite.

It would be cost-effective to glue on a 0.8mm (0.03 inches) laminate panel.

No MDF board is an option. Could it also be glued?
