We have now finished the floor plans, and the electrical planning phase is starting. I expect there will be quite a few pencils and erasers used.

Do you have any tips on things that are often forgotten or important points to watch out for?

The basis will be the Busch-Jäger Free@Home system. In the first step, I want to plan the power outlets, then gradually the rest.

Oh, power transmission via radio waves?

You can already wirelessly charge your smartphone today...

That is already possible and will definitely become standard in the future...

Who would have believed 10 years ago that we would now carry PCs in our pockets that can do more than a space shuttle?

But of course, it is also possible that in 10 years we will still be using ugly, thick power cables like today. I am speculating based on the current state of technology and trends in market-ready development.

Yes, electric toothbrushes have had this technology for decades, and it is slowly starting to appear in the mobile telecommunications sector. This shows how long it takes for such developments to reach the general public. So, building a copper mine in your new house is not a concern, as it is unlikely that fewer electrical outlets and similar changes will happen any sooner than in 50 years. IPTV is still very much in its infancy; I won’t even get started on that.

I am familiar with the techniques, but fewer and fewer people want radiation sources inside their homes. This is suitable for low-voltage systems – there are concepts for electric vehicles, but those are still in their early stages.

Even today, and certainly for the coming years and decades, most wiring is done using conventional methods. But if you don’t need it, that’s fine.

To add something on the topic of power outlets: We currently live in a rental apartment with only three outlets per room, in an older building. Strangely, this has never bothered us. We have also never thought about wanting more outlets because we simply don’t need that many. We only use a power strip in the kitchen and the living room. Those are also the two places where we plan to install a few more outlets in the house.

Maybe we just have fewer devices than average? No idea. I keep finding it fascinating how many people in my circle of friends and here in the forum report having lots of outlets installed and that they need them all?!

Regarding IPTV… Why is it considered something new or “in its infancy”? The last time we watched traditional TV was two years ago. When the TV is on, it either streams the PC screen or plays Netflix. Satellite, DVB-T, and even IPTV are not relevant for us. That means those outlets are unnecessary. LAN outlets are also unnecessary for us (as I said). Current data transfer rates have nearly doubled since 802.11ac. So LAN outlets are unnecessary for us as well.

Of course, this is all subjective because everyone has different needs. Someone who works at home a lot or runs a server or has a home cinema will obviously require a lot more outlets and a LAN network.

Some people keep up with the times, others don’t. My father still has a hi-fi rack in his living room and feels like he needs 20 outlets for it. I have an Apple TV and one receiver, and two outlets are enough for the same result ^^… What tomorrow will bring, I don’t know.
