Hello,
we are currently planning our kitchen and are almost finished. Now we need to plan the electrical outlets for the electrician.
How many outlets should a kitchen have at a minimum? We will have a U-shaped kitchen.
The outlets for fixed appliances are clear (oven, refrigerator, microwave, etc.).
I mean the free outlets above the countertop for portable appliances (coffee maker, kettle, blender, etc.).
We have currently planned 8 free outlets, with 2 in each corner. Would you say 8 is enough, or should we add a few more?
Should all free outlets in the kitchen have their own circuit?

We have 12 power outlets: 3-3-4, and there have actually been days when 1 or 2 circuit breakers were fully loaded. Not always with sensible devices, but still fully loaded. I would now simply install more outlets than you think are necessary. That way, you won’t be annoyed later. We also installed some outlets behind the tall cabinets. One of these is now used for the microwave, which we placed inside the cabinet for aesthetic reasons, and the second will be for the vacuum cleaner in the utility closet.
My initial plan was to install at least one double outlet in every corner of the room. I couldn’t enforce this, and my wife had to admit that it was sometimes a mistake to forbid me from doing so. There’s always something missing. 😉 Except so far in our kitchen.

But rather sacrifice a power outlet for a double USB-C socket. Whether it’s a smartwatch, phone, or something else.
We also have two of those in our bedroom. Why sacrifice? There are power outlets with two integrated USB ports. So, you can connect three devices in one standard outlet.

Georgian201914 Dec 2021 08:574 outlets on the countertop, with 2 in use, one at the window, one free above the high cabinet, one by the door, and I believe one in a corner (hidden by the display cabinet). In total, there are 9 sockets (3 constantly in use) plus connections for the extractor hood, refrigerator, oven, and a spare socket behind the gas stove in case the setup is changed back to electric.
It’s better to have a few extra sockets installed than to have to work with junction boxes or rearrange connections later on… although rearranging isn’t really a big deal.
