We have now finished the floor plans, and the electrical planning phase is starting. I expect there will be quite a few pencils and erasers used.

Do you have any tips on things that are often forgotten or important points to watch out for?

The basis will be the Busch-Jäger Free@Home system. In the first step, I want to plan the power outlets, then gradually the rest.

Although 1600 is quite an overestimate – I believe the limit is around 3600 watts. Since we have a central vacuum system, there are hardly any major power consumers except in the kitchen.

In the end, you have to be realistic, because even at the hi-fi rack, you usually barely reach that limit.

Yes, 1,600 watts was almost certainly planned. I know that. But it also allows for the possibility to easily add a second outlet to some single socket boxes in the hallway if needed, which can also handle a high load. That’s how we arrived at the 1,600 watts.

For example, at the hi-fi rack, it’s a case like that. System up to a max of 1,100 watts. The TV at the time was 650 watts (power hog, I’ve since gotten rid of that). So, it also had its own dedicated circuit.

Don’t quote me exactly, I’m not sure anymore, but only 5 or 6 additional feeder lines were needed... barely any extra cost!

One more year, and newly sold vacuum cleaners will only be allowed to have 900 watts. Most vacuum cleaners in stores already use less than 800 watts. The same will gradually happen with many other appliances. I don’t even know how they will manage to reach 3600 watts anymore.

System with 1100 watts power consumption? What is that supposed to mean? I have a 7.2 system with 190 watts audio output per channel and reach a maximum power consumption of 290 watts.

My TV uses up to 520 watts (at a white screen) – then you also have a Blu-ray player, PS3, satellite receiver, and a Wii – so I only have two sockets downstairs and one upstairs – everything shares one power supply line.

PS: Vacuum cleaners under 1000 watts (about 1340 watts) are really uncool.

After our vacuum cleaner broke down this year, I was forced to get a new one.
I don’t know what changes were made to the nozzle and hose, but these things now stick to the floor so much that with their full "750 watts" you can no longer move them on the carpet, or vacuuming turns into a workout.

: Exactly, low-powered vacuums are uncool. Hopefully, my old Miele lasts a long time. At least it’s effective.

The TV: That device was a beast. It averaged 600 watts; I have no idea what it did with that much power. It was very expensive at the time. The new one averages 34 watts with a good picture. Since my wife watches a lot of TV (more precisely, this thing is basically on in the background all day), it raised daily power consumption from 10.5 kWh/day to 18.5 kWh/day. That annoyed me so much I got rid of it.

The audio system is quite capable, although the 1100 watts is the nominal maximum power rating. When playing quietly, it draws about 150 watts, but when it gets louder, it definitely pulls significantly more.
