I’m very glad to have found this forum and hope you can help me with a little issue regarding electrical outlets. Sometimes I feel a bit unsure when planning my house, but I think that’s a common experience here.

I’m currently working on deciding where and how many outlets to install. Where would you place them?

I have attached a floor plan...

I look forward to your suggestions and ideas!

Best regards

You’re probably right, but it’s also not a good idea to thoughtlessly install two sockets or more in every corner.

You should consider the daily routines of everyone living in the house and think about where they are most likely to plug in their sports equipment, mobile phones, gaming consoles, computers, kitchen appliances, and other devices. Indirect lighting should also be planned.
That said, you don’t need a power outlet under every light switch, for example.

Oh man! What kind of floor plan is that? It definitely needs to be revised before the electrical installation 😉

As I said, behind my TV I have two free outlets... TV, satellite receiver, and Blu-ray player are plugged into a power strip so they can all be switched off completely. I just wanted to point out that having a lot is not always helpful. Why install countless outlets (all with child safety locks, which won’t really help if you have kids) that remain unused? I’m not going to have outlets installed everywhere just so something can be plugged in every three years.

Ypg is right. Think through your daily routine and decide where you really need outlets.

The floor plan still shows the old electrical layout (before renovation) :p Everything will be completely redone!

Well, my 10 outlets behind the TV are already in use...

I also mentioned that you should consider where you might want to place things in the future... However, I still recommend planning at least 2 outlets in every corner as a general rule. Later on, you’ll regret not spending a few extra dollars and will end up with multiple power strips lying around everywhere.

For example, I have a total of 13 outlets in the bedroom, and only 4 of them are still free.

In contrast, there are only 4 outlets in the hallway, and all of these are still unoccupied for now...
