Hello everyone,

The carcasses of our kitchen are in place, and the interior fittings as well, except for one cabinet—the one under the cooktop. I’m not sure what options are possible there.

I have an 80 cm (31½ inch) cabinet for the cooktop. It will be fitted with the NYTTIG divider. Now I’m wondering what would be better or possible underneath.

A 10 cm (4 inch) panel and a 10 cm (4 inch) drawer? Or would it be more practical to install a 20 cm (8 inch) drawer?

The countertop will be 2.6 cm (1 inch) thick, made of solid oak.

I’ve never had a built-in cooktop before, so I’m not very familiar with it. And with the thinner countertop, the cooktop will protrude into the cabinet below.

Maybe someone here can help or give me a recommendation. At the moment, I’m leaning towards the 20 cm (8 inch) drawer.

There are still two 10 cm (4 inch) drawers available for cutlery in another 80 cm (31½ inch) cabinet.

Thanks and best regards,
Kirsten

Is it possible to install two 10cm (4 inches) drawers instead of one 20cm (8 inches) drawer? That’s how I would like to do it. However, I’m not exactly sure how tall the drawers from Ikea are and whether there would be any interference.

Personally, I find a 10cm (4 inches) drawer below the stove great for all the spatulas and whisks you usually need.

If two 10cm (4 inches) drawers aren’t feasible, I would probably go with one 20cm (8 inches) drawer instead.

Clearly, two 10cm (5 inch) units could theoretically work. The question is how much of the upper 10cm (5 inch) unit can still be used. That’s what I’m wondering and hoping someone can help me with.
I also can’t make sense of the cooktop dimensions to estimate it based on that.

A 10cm (5 inch) panel and a 10cm (5 inch) drawer seem impractical to me – then a 20cm (8 inch) pull-out drawer,
or two 10cm (5 inch) drawers, provided the upper one can still be used reasonably.

I find the upper shelf quite practical for spatulas and similar utensils. Or maybe for small spice jars...

With a 2.6cm (1 inch) thick countertop, the cooktop extends about 2.5cm (1 inch) below the countertop, depending on the manufacturer, slightly more or less. Depending on the cooktop, cable protection may be integrated, or an additional vented panel might be required.

In a 10cm (4 inch) drawer, which has only 7cm (3 inches) of usable height from the base, you can at best store small cutlery, but not cooking spoons, ladles, spatulas, etc.

I would recommend a 20cm (8 inch) drawer.
