Hello everyone,

due to a planning error with the staircase, the bathroom door to the main bathroom on the upper floor has to be reduced from 86 cm (34 inches) to 73.5 cm (29 inches) in width. Do you have any experience or suggestions on what kind of compensation could be requested for this? For us, this is quite a significant restriction, but we have no idea how to express it in monetary terms. Changing it is no longer possible.

Thank you very much for your input

Hello,
well, the bathroom is no longer accessible.
You never know what else might come up.
Best regards, Olli

For accessibility, the door was still too narrow according to the plan. Additionally, the door would need to open outward rather than inward.

There won’t be any room for negotiation here, at best a concession elsewhere.

As a reference, in our basement apartment, an open planned passageway between the hallway and living room was made only the width of a standard door, at 1.10m (3 ft 7 in). The electrician said it would cost about 250 euros to widen the passage and asked if we agreed to pay 250 euros. We paid the amount and that was it.

In your situation, I personally find the narrow passage much more problematic; it would bother me a lot.
