Hello everyone,

due to a planning error with the staircase, the bathroom door to the main bathroom on the upper floor has to be reduced from 86 cm (34 inches) to 73.5 cm (29 inches) in width. Do you have any experience or suggestions on what kind of compensation could be requested for this? For us, this is quite a significant restriction, but we have no idea how to express it in monetary terms. Changing it is no longer possible.

Thank you very much for your input

I would bet that you won’t receive any compensation, no matter what you request. But you could start with 500 (currency), as it’s unlikely you’ll get more than that, if anything at all. I actually expect it to be zero.

Then please tell me, what major drawbacks does the smaller door actually cause you? If you are truly facing serious, permanent disadvantages because of it, compensation could be considered.

15 euros, after all, the door leaf and frame are smaller

Is reducing the size the only or simplest solution? First, check if there is a better option.

If there is no other way, it is often worth giving up a financial demand in exchange for a favor elsewhere. There is always something to balance things out in discussions with the building partners. This keeps the atmosphere positive, the interactions fair, and it is reflected in the quality as well.

In view of https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/baumaengel-oder-stand-der-technik.35357/, I am surprised to read that the coordination between the staircase and bathroom door was only off by twelve and a half centimeters (5 inches).
