Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets by myself and wonder if this is realistic without anyone to assist me during installation. I don’t have any basic DIY skills issues, but I lack a second person to hold larger cabinets or help with mounting them to the wall. Does anyone have experience assembling Metod cabinets alone? How demanding is it, and what difficulties might arise without a second person? Are there any tips or special tools that can make solo assembly easier? I would greatly appreciate detailed feedback.
I mostly assembled my Metod cabinets on my own and can say: it’s possible, but definitely not easy with the large cabinets. With base cabinets it’s no problem, and wall cabinets worked solo as well if you use a few tricks (like partially screwing in the screws first, aligning the cabinet, then tightening them fully). It’s important to allow plenty of time and for the tall cabinets, it’s best to have a sturdy object to lean the cabinet against. Of course, having someone to hold it would be even better. For example, I had a ladder that I could temporarily lean the cabinet on.
A small tip regarding tools: Besides a cordless screwdriver, I recommend having a second drill as a support or a clamp if available. Without such aids, simply holding parts together securely while screwing becomes much more difficult. For tall cabinets, be sure to assemble all shelves and doors beforehand—this way, you’ll have fewer individual parts to lift, and the unit will be more stable. At eye level, you can also use double-sided tape on the back to attach small spacers, preventing any slipping. I find the installation of wall brackets particularly challenging alone—so I would suggest having a second person assist, even if it’s inconvenient.
Assembling Ikea Metod cabinets alone is definitely challenging but achievable with proper planning and preparation. Important: Allow at least twice as much time compared to assembling with a second person. Work in stages – for example, complete all the carcasses first and install the doors at the very end. For tall cabinets, you can try leaning the carcass against the wall at an angle to temporarily stabilize it. Always make sure to follow the assembly sequence in the IKEA instructions to avoid mistakes. If possible, having a friend help during the initial critical fastening steps could be beneficial.
I understand that it isn’t always easy to have someone available to help with assembly. I once tried to assemble a tall cabinet from the Metod series on my own and felt very nervous. What was important for me was to take my time patiently and also take breaks to avoid frustration. If you find it getting too difficult, it’s better to split the work and arrange for a helper. Safety should be a priority, especially with heavy and tall cabinets.

If you want to secure the cabinets to the wall, you definitely need an assembly aid or at least a bracket to hold them in place.Which specific assembly aids do you recommend? Are there special mounting brackets for Metod cabinets, or did you mean universal tools? I have no assembly experience and want to avoid improvising anything that might become unstable later.

Are there special mounting brackets for Metod, or did you mean universal tools? For wall mounting IKEA Metod cabinet boxes, universally applicable mounting brackets made of sturdy metal, available at hardware stores, are generally recommended. These can be temporarily installed to securely hold the cabinet until all wall fixings are fully screwed in. Sometimes so-called "quick-release mounting brackets" with a lever mechanism are used, which hold the cabinet in place without screws. Alternatively, solid wooden blocks or clamps can be repurposed, but metal brackets usually provide better stability. It is important that the brackets or supports can carry the weight and do not slip.
