nlbnlbnlb29 Nov 2016 21:31Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my kitchen and have almost everything finalized, but I still have one question. My washing machine and dryer need to be installed in the kitchen, and I would like to integrate them into cabinets like the rest of the kitchen. Has anyone had experience with this, and what should I consider? Unfortunately, the washing machine is 60 cm (24 inches) wide, which is slightly too wide for a standard 60 cm (24 inches) Metod cabinet, and the dryer is 63.5 cm (25 inches) wide.
I was thinking of leaving the spaces where the dryer and washing machine will go open, without installing Metod base cabinets there, and instead building a custom wooden frame to house the dryer and washing machine. The countertop above would cover this, and I would attach hinged doors to the sides. However, I am bothered by having to give up the usual 60 cm (24 inches) width spacing because the fronts would no longer match... Does anyone have smart ideas on how to manage this?
Thank you very much for the tips!

IKEA-Experte29 Nov 2016 23:11Hello,
Who sells 63.5 cm (25 inches) wide appliances in Germany?
If there is enough space in depth, I would place the washing machine between two cabinets, screw strips to the neighboring cabinets in front of the washing machine, and attach the hinges to one of the strips.

I would place the appliances in the corner inside a kind of DIY tall cabinet. It needs to be 70cm (28 inches) wide, without a bottom. Using Metod fronts, you can build a 2m (79 inches) high door, but you’ll have to widen the fronts on the sides. For example, you could attach an additional 10cm (4 inches) cut front with flat steel connectors. In this 10cm (4 inches) strip, you drill cup holes for the hinges. This way, you get a 70cm (28 inches) wide cabinet, and behind it you can stack the washing machine and dryer.
Otherwise, you’d have to get creative, for example, find machines and dryers less than 55cm (22 inches) deep. These can be installed under the worktop, but you’ll need a very large kitchen if you want to fit under-counter units including a dishwasher without their own cabinet structure. Because for stability, a cabinet body should stand on both sides of each appliance. Placing two appliances side by side is not stable.
If the proposed tall cabinet appliance tower doesn’t fit your kitchen layout, you’ll have to limit your choice of appliances and buy special hinges, where the hinge mounting plates are milled into the side walls of the neighboring cabinets. Only then will you achieve a 60cm (24 inches) niche size that allows you to mount a standard front. It’s easier to build 70cm (28 inches) niches and combine a 60x80cm (24x31 inches) front with an 80x10cm (31x4 inches) vertical drawer front to create one door with a visible gap. You’ll probably complain less when one day you have to clean the siphon behind the appliance, and so on.

Addition:
Maybe these hinges will give you the right idea. If the washing machine / dryer is only 59cm (23 inches) wide and the hinge is mounted on the adjacent cabinet, this could be your solution:

You would just need to have the confidence to use a hole saw and drill over the edge. The drilling templates are supposed to be included with the hinges to ensure nothing goes wrong.

I should mention that the entire kitchen will be completely custom-made. This means the countertop will be cast from concrete by myself, and the cabinet fronts will also be self-built. My current plan was to leave out two cabinet boxes (for the dryer and washing machine) and use the gained centimeters. That way, for example, I could place the washing machine directly on the floor between two cabinets with 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) of clearance on each side, which would give me only one centimeter (0.4 inches) more than with a cabinet box. At 60 cm (24 inches) width, this probably won’t be very noticeable in the overall look. For the dryer, I would do the same but leave a bit more space on the sides. The hinges would then need to be attached to the adjoining cabinet boxes on the left and right, just on the opposite side. Does that make sense? And can someone with experience say if this sounds realistic?

IKEA-Experte30 Nov 2016 15:39No, it’s not clear. Why would you gain anything by leaving out two carcasses?
A 600mm (24-inch) carcass is 600mm (24 inches) wide overall and has an internal clear width of 564mm (22.2 inches).
Which dryer model is 635mm (25 inches) wide?
