ᐅ Installing Washing Machines/Dryers from Other Brands into Ikea Metod Kitchens?

Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my kitchen and have almost everything finalized, but I still have one question. My washing machine and dryer need to be installed in the kitchen, and I would like to integrate them into cabinets like the rest of the kitchen. Has anyone had experience with this, and what should I consider? Unfortunately, the washing machine is 60 cm (24 inches) wide, which is slightly too wide for a standard 60 cm (24 inches) Metod cabinet, and the dryer is 63.5 cm (25 inches) wide.

I was thinking of leaving the spaces where the dryer and washing machine will go open, without installing Metod base cabinets there, and instead building a custom wooden frame to house the dryer and washing machine. The countertop above would cover this, and I would attach hinged doors to the sides. However, I am bothered by having to give up the usual 60 cm (24 inches) width spacing because the fronts would no longer match... Does anyone have smart ideas on how to manage this?

Thank you very much for the tips!

Hello
I think you are assuming that dryers/washing machines are built into cabinets like stoves or ovens. In fact, they are simply slid under the countertop and placed between the adjacent cabinets, similar to a dishwasher or under-counter refrigerator.

So if you want a door in front of them, it is usually attached to one of the neighboring cabinets anyway.

Since you are making the fronts yourself, I don’t see any problem in making the doors a bit wider.

So if you want a door in front, it will anyway be attached to one of the adjacent cabinets.
There are fully integrated washing machines available at BSH that come with hinges for a cabinet door. It’s not entirely trouble-free—an imbalance can cause the machine to shift slightly, which, of course, affects the gap dimensions.
