Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a Billy shelf from IKEA and discovered during assembly that several screws were missing. It’s not just a single screw, but a whole pack with different sizes that are essential for the shelf. The assembly instructions don’t offer any alternatives, and without these screws, I can’t safely and securely put the shelf together.
My question to the community is: What is the best way to proceed if the screws are completely missing from an IKEA Billy shelf? Is there a defined process for replacement parts? Do I have to return to the store, or can this be handled through an online request? And what experiences have you had if components were missing?
I would like to know if IKEA is accommodating and how quickly such issues can be resolved. Thank you in advance for your help!

If you notice that IKEA is not handling your case promptly, it can also help to explain directly in the store that it is a safety issueExactly! Safety comes first! That made all the difference for me the last time I went. They acted immediately when I emphasized that the shelf could not be safely installed otherwise.
Keep at it, this usually works really well with IKEA 🙂
It can also be helpful to take photos of the screws on site and then send them to customer service through the official IKEA website. Sometimes the spare part descriptions can be a bit confusing, and showing the parts visually helps the staff identify what is needed more quickly.
Additionally, please note that the Billy shelf may use different screw sets depending on the year of manufacture. It would be advisable to provide the product number and the manufacturing year (if visible) to ensure the correct replacement parts are sent.
Do you have proof of purchase? Having it will make the process easier for you.
