Hello everyone, I have a question that might be of interest to some of you: Are there upgrades or alternative hinges for IKEA Besta cabinets that go beyond the standard fittings?
I own several Besta units, and while the original hinges generally work, they don’t seem very durable or high-quality to me, especially with frequent use. I’m curious if it’s possible to replace the hinges with more robust, higher-quality, or simply better-functioning models without having to remove the entire door or make major modifications.
It’s also important to me whether such upgrades are compatible with the existing drilling pattern and how the replacement affects the door adjustment options.
Does anyone have experience with these kinds of improvements or know of specific replacement hinges that are recommended?

The drilling pattern is usually the same, so major modifications are not necessary.I can confirm that. However, it is important to pay attention to the door thickness and type of hinge, otherwise the door may not close properly or may sag.
A quick note on durability: higher quality hinges last significantly longer but are usually somewhat more expensive.

Could you please elaborate on how easy it is to adjust these hinges? I often have trouble with fine-tuning, especially on furniture where a tight closing fit is important.Sure! I really like the Hettich Sensys hinges: they have three-dimensional adjustment screws (position, height, depth), which makes balancing very efficient. The initial replacement can take a little time to get everything perfectly aligned, but afterward, the doors stay in great position. 👍 The soft-close function also works flawlessly.

How difficult is the replacement usually? Is it enough to just swap the mounts on the carcasses, or do you have to expect additional drilling or modifications to the furniture? In my cases, I didn’t need to drill anything. The mounts on both the carcass and door fit the common hinges available from specialist suppliers, so it was a plug-and-play upgrade.
Wow, I’m really impressed by the tips mentioned here! 😄 I have a similar question because my Besta hinges are starting to squeak and sometimes become difficult to move.
Would you recommend switching directly to soft-close hinges, or is that more of a luxury? In terms of durability alone, is the investment in these more expensive models really worth it? Maybe someone can share their experience?

Purely in terms of durability, is it really worth investing in these more expensive models?Yes, high-quality hinges last significantly longer and provide better functionality, which saves costs and trouble in the long run.
One quick thought from me: Sure, soft-close hinges add a touch of elegance and protect the furniture, but if you’re more of a practical type, simple, sturdy hinges made from good materials are sufficient.
By the way, I once had basic standard hinges from Ikea that often needed adjusting after a few years. The more expensive models I have now require little maintenance. So depending on how much convenience you want, there are different options.
