Hello everyone, I have a specific question and need your experience: How can I childproof Ikea Besta doors without complicated modifications? It is important to me that the solution is easy to install, does not require major changes to the furniture, and reliably prevents small children from opening the doors. I have already considered magnetic locks or clamp locks but am unsure what is truly practical, discreet, and above all safe. If you have experience with specific products, DIY solutions, or tricks that work well for Besta, I would really appreciate detailed descriptions or tips. Thanks in advance!

Hello Shakir60, I would recommend using snap-on fasteners that can be attached to the door frame without screws. They usually hold well and are easy to remove. No drilling, no hassle.

Hey Shakir60, the topic of childproof locking is really important! I used magnetic locks at our place and am very satisfied! They open easily with a key and no drilling is required. Give it a try, it really makes life easier! Don’t get discouraged, it will definitely work! 🙂

A possible solution without major renovations is small self-adhesive child safety locks made of plastic, which can be easily attached to the inside of Besta doors. It is important to ensure that these locks require a certain amount of force to open, thus providing effective protection. They are usually discreet and can be removed without leaving any residue. Alternatively, magnetic locks also work, provided there are no concerns about small screws.

I know exactly how annoying it is when children keep reaching into the cabinets – thanks for bringing up this topic here! If you are interested in magnetic solutions, keep in mind that some kids persistently try to open the doors anyway. That can be frustrating. It helps to place the locks so they are not directly visible and hard to reach. Maybe you already have a model in mind? It would be interesting to hear!

To address the question directly: For Besta cabinets, I recommend magnetic child safety locks, which you can either get included or purchase separately. They are very compact and usually fit easily behind the doors. Make sure the magnet is strong enough, preferably neodymium-based, and that the key is well-made to ensure the mechanism lasts over time. The holder is either glued or screwed to the inside of the door, with the corresponding part attached to the cabinet frame. Installation usually does not require drilling; adhesive strips can often be sufficient. Important: The door seals and hinges must not be obstructed.
