Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to retrofit my Ikea Metod kitchen and am looking for specific tips and best practices to ensure the project is successful. I am especially interested in how to carry out the removal and installation efficiently without causing any damage, as well as which tools or aids are particularly recommended.

Are there any tips for adjusting the dimensions or solutions to adapt existing modules to new requirements or room layouts? Additionally, I would appreciate advice on how to customize the otherwise standardized cabinet configurations in a meaningful way without compromising the kitchen’s stability.

Who has experience with retrofitting Metod kitchens and can share practical insights?
Thank you in advance for detailed responses!

Are there possibly changes to the hot water/drain connections involved in your project, or is it just the electrical and mechanical work on the cabinets?

The water connection will remain unchanged; no modifications to the plumbing are planned. The focus is therefore truly on the electrical work, the countertop, and the mechanical conversions related to drawers and cabinet carcasses.

Thanks in advance for the tips on sound insulation and the guide rail – I will definitely get a good router and make sure to consider this accessory.

What about installing the new drawer modules? Are there any special mounting tricks to ensure the drawers run smoothly, or is it better to completely replace the drawer slides?

The Metod drawers work best when you use the original rails or compatible metal slides that match the cabinet depth.

Installation tips:

- Check that the drawer runners are properly aligned, as even slight misalignment can affect smooth operation.
- Secure the rails with the provided screws in the designated pre-drilled holes and use a spirit level for accuracy.
- If the new drawers have a different weight (e.g., larger or carrying heavier loads), choose a model with a higher load capacity.
- For drawers with soft-close functionality, it’s advisable to measure and adjust the necessary setting screws beforehand.

Completely replacing the drawer runners is only necessary if the existing cabinet is significantly damaged or the depth of the new modules differs considerably. Otherwise, compatible rails and careful installation are usually sufficient.

If you have questions about selecting the right slides, I can provide additional advice.

Thank you, that is exactly my situation. I want a wider drawer module for my pots, and it will definitely carry more weight.

I will make sure the slides have a load capacity of at least 30 kg (66 lbs) or more. Is there a recommendation on whether to use soft-close mechanisms, or is that mainly a matter of personal preference in terms of cost and durability?

Does anyone have experience with how to avoid installation mistakes that could later cause avoidable dragging or tilting issues with the drawers?

I would appreciate any additional tips!
