Hello everyone, I am currently looking into the IKEA Platsa system and plan to build a shelf that can carry as much weight as possible. Therefore, my question is: Are there any shelves within the different PLATSA models or variants designed to support particularly heavy loads? I am not looking for standard shelves but ones specifically designed for heavier items – ideally with information on maximum load capacity or special materials or reinforcements. Who has experience with this or can offer recommendations?

Summary for everyone interested:

- Platsa shelves are usually made of coated particleboard and can support up to approximately 15-20 kg (33-44 lbs) per shelf when the load is evenly distributed
- No special thin shelves are available from IKEA for heavier loads
- Metal frames stabilize the furniture and prevent warping but do not directly reduce the load on the shelves
- Reinforcements such as angle brackets or additional wooden strips help with higher loads
- Shorter spans and even load distribution prevent sagging
If you plan to store heavy appliances or books, it is advisable to use these measures or consider other furniture options with solid wood shelves.

Great, this overview is very helpful. My plan is leaning towards heavy binders and technical equipment, so I will probably add extra metal brackets under the shelves and possibly only combine office furniture with short spans. If I receive further experiences or tips, I will gladly provide feedback here. Thank you very much for the very helpful discussion!
