Hello everyone, I have a specific question about installing Billy shelves on uneven floors. My floor is unfortunately not completely level, which causes the shelves to wobble or not align properly. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to best install Billy shelves on such uneven surfaces? My main concern is to ensure long-term stability and to make adjustments as simply as possible without having to carry out major work on the floor. I look forward to your advice!

Use small wooden wedges or furniture pads under the shelf feet until the shelf stands firmly. This way, you can compensate for unevenness without altering the floor.

When installing Billy shelves on uneven floors, the degree of unevenness should first be measured precisely. Small irregularities can be easily compensated for with adjustable furniture glides or wedges. For more significant floor variations, it is advisable to reinforce the back panel of the shelf with an additional spacer or shims. Securing the shelf to the wall can also significantly increase stability and prevent tipping.

Hey! 🙂 I had the same problem at my place. I just put some non-slip rubber pads under the baseboards and also wedged a small wooden shim in. It works great, and the shelf has been rock solid for weeks! Also, I would definitely not forget to secure it to the wall, that provides extra stability. Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for the tips so far! To be more specific: Can adjustable furniture glides be placed directly under the legs of a Billy-style bookshelf, or are special adapters required? Has anyone experienced whether this might cause a shift in load distribution? It would also be helpful to know if the original back panel remains stable when using wedges, or whether it should be reinforced.

Adjustable furniture glides can simply be screwed under the shelf legs, yes. If your shelf does not have suitable legs, small wooden blocks can be cut to size to compensate for unevenness. The back panel should possibly be fixed to the wall with screws to increase stability.
