Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new wardrobe and am looking closely at the Ikea PAX range. I came across the possibility of outfitting wardrobes with different types of fronts. My specific question is: Are there Ikea PAX wardrobes with glass fronts, meaning doors that are not entirely made of wood or MDF but can also feature a glass front?

I imagine either fully transparent or semi-transparent glass doors to, for example, make part of the interior visible while still providing some protection against dust. At first glance, I could not clearly find such options in the online catalogs or in the store.

Can you tell me if Ikea PAX glass fronts are really part of the standard range, possibly as an optional feature, or if one usually has to turn to third-party solutions? And if so, what are your experiences with glass fronts specifically for PAX – are they any good, or is this more of a risk in terms of weight or stability? Thanks in advance for your opinions and information!

Hi!

I had similar thoughts when planning my PAX wardrobe. Actually, Ikea doesn’t offer glass fronts as a standard option for PAX in all countries, but some door styles do include glass. For example, there are doors with a wooden frame and glass inserts that can be either lightly tinted or clear.

This makes the wardrobe look lighter and more modern, and the glass is usually safety glass, so it’s not completely fragile.

What I also learned is that glass fronts can be heavier, so you should pay attention to how the weight is supported on the hinges and whether the unit is stable enough. Sometimes it’s a good idea to check the doors more frequently to make sure they’re still properly aligned.

Personally, I think it’s great for displaying favorite items or neatly organized sections, but it might not be the best choice for high-traffic rooms (like children’s rooms).

If you want, I can share more about the specific models I found! Until then, good luck with your planning!

First of all, thanks for the great question from JUIXDU!

To add some more detail, I’d like to explain how the glass options for Ikea PAX wardrobes generally work. Ikea actually offers several door models for PAX that include glass panels – the most common ones are called "Bergsbo" and "Fjällbo" or something similar. These doors usually combine a wooden frame with a glass pane, which can be either clear or frosted. The glass is generally safety glass, which is strong enough for everyday use.

The advantages of these glass fronts are:
- You can see the contents, which creates a light and open feel in the room.
- Protection from dust when storing visible items.
- A stylish element that prevents the PAX from looking like a simple closed cabinet.

One important note: the glass fronts are usually not fully transparent doors but glass panels set within a wooden door frame. This keeps the door stable and helps distribute the weight better.

You can often ask Ikea staff for specific samples or catalogues. If you shop online, you’ll usually find these doors as optional extras during the PAX configuration.

If you have any questions about installation or working with glass fronts, feel free to ask! I have installed several PAX wardrobes with glass doors and can also offer tips on maintenance.

Good day,

I would like to provide a structured overview on the topic of "Ikea PAX wardrobes with glass fronts" that might help some with orientation:

1. Glass Fronts in the Standard Range:
- Ikea offers a few door models within the PAX series that feature glass inserts framed in wood. Fully glazed doors made entirely of glass are not available, at least not officially in the standard range.
- Examples include doors like the "Bergsbo" model, which contains clear or frosted glass elements.

2. Materials & Construction:
- The glass inserts are made of safety glass, which increases break resistance.
- The combination of wood frames and glass provides sufficient stability and looks more premium compared to solid wood doors.

3. Installation Notes:
- Doors with glass inserts are slightly heavier and require careful installation.
- When assembling, it is important to securely fix the glass panel in the frame, usually with silicone seals and retention clips.

4. Alternative Solutions:
- There are no official Ikea PAX variants for fully glass cabinet fronts.
- For this, one has to rely on external suppliers or create a custom solution.

Conclusion:
There are indeed PAX doors with glass fronts, but this means glass inserts within wooden frames, not fully glass doors. Those who want a complete glass look should either complement Ikea products or use custom-made doors.

If anyone needs further technical questions answered or practical installation instructions, I would be happy to provide them.
