ᐅ Are there Ikea PAX wardrobe models featuring two cabinets of different heights?

Hello everyone,

I have a specific question regarding the Ikea PAX wardrobe systems: Are there any wardrobes within the PAX model range that can be combined using two cabinet units of different heights, meaning can you place two wardrobes of varying heights side by side?

I was considering building a combination of a lower and a higher PAX wardrobe to accommodate different room niches and storage needs. I am generally aware of the different widths and depths of the modules, but my question is whether Ikea offers official models or module combinations within PAX that allow for two wardrobes with different heights that visually match well and are compatible.

Does anyone have experience with this? Are there official options, or are all PAX cabinet units always the same height, so that combining two different heights side by side would either look inconsistent or cause technical issues during assembly?

Looking forward to your insights or experiences! Thanks in advance.

I would like to add a somewhat critical perspective to the discussion.

First, I agree that heights of 201 cm and 236 cm (79 inches and 93 inches) are standard for Pax units, but technical compatibility does not necessarily mean good visual integration.

It is also important to individually check the wall mounting and stability when dealing with modules of different heights. The cabinets are independent modules, yes, but if they are installed and secured separately (for example, placed side by side), visible gaps between the varying heights will inevitably occur and need to be consciously designed.

Furthermore, there are no modular middle or transition elements that can elegantly conceal the height differences. Cover panels can be used, but this is more of a workaround.

Additionally, it should be considered that different heights will have an impact on storage space and the overall usage concept. This is definitely not a trivial task and requires careful planning. Before purchasing, one should carefully weigh whether the goal is a uniform cabinet block or a deliberately styled asymmetrical solution.

By the way, what is the ceiling height and the size of your niche, USGIVIN?

Hello USGIVIN and all readers,

I am summarizing the practical points in case anyone needs support with a PAX project:

- The PAX series offers two main heights: 201 cm (79 inches) and 236 cm (93 inches). Both have the same depths (35 cm (14 inches) or 58 cm (23 inches)) and a range of widths.
- Technically, the modules are independent units, so two cabinets of different heights can be placed side by side without problems.
- Since the fronts are often matched to the height, it is important to carefully choose the front and plinth height to maintain a unified appearance.
- Cover panels or clever lighting can be used to make any height differences at the top less noticeable.

My recommendation:
- Measure the exact height and width of the space niche
- Consider whether you need a modular coordinated corner system
- Plan the layout consistently with the fronts to maintain a cohesive look

I am happy to assist with exact measurements if you want to post them.

Wow, this thread offers really great information on PAX compatibility! 😊

I had a similar plan and can say from personal experience that it works perfectly to place two PAX wardrobes of different heights side by side. Mine were 201 cm (79 inches) and 236 cm (93 inches).

As mentioned before, it’s important to use appropriate covers on top so that none of the wardrobes look unfinished. I used a custom-fit panel, and now it looks like a continuous system.

You should especially pay attention to matching doors and handles. If you stick to the Ikea range, this is usually not a problem.

I can only recommend: give it a try, it makes the room more dynamic and versatile. If done correctly, no one will notice the height difference but will appreciate the clever setup! Good luck!
