Hello everyone,
I am currently looking for a suitable solution for shoe storage and am particularly interested in the IKEA PAX system. My question is: Are there any modules or accessories within the IKEA PAX range that are especially well suited for organizing and storing shoes? I imagine using either special shelves, drawers with divider systems, or perhaps even hanging elements to store shoes in a space-saving yet easily accessible way.

My main goal is to avoid buying separate shoe racks and instead equip the existing PAX framework – that is, a wardrobe – with multifunctional shoe storage solutions. Has anyone had experience with this or any tips on the best way to achieve it? I am especially interested in aspects such as load capacity, accessibility, and ease of viewing the shoes within the PAX system.

I look forward to your responses and ideas!

Hello Fele57,
I think your question is very well thought out and shows that you have already considered the topic carefully. The IKEA PAX system is primarily designed for clothing, but many users also take advantage of the modular flexibility for shoe storage.

The PAX system offers various interior solutions that can work well for shoes:
- Shelves can be inserted flexibly and are sturdy enough to hold pairs of shoes.
- There are extra narrow drawers as well as drawers with dividers, which are useful for smaller shoes or organizing.
- Some people use wire baskets as an alternative, which keep many shoes neatly arranged while allowing air circulation.

It’s important to adjust the height of the shelves and drawers to the height of your shoes. The system is usually less ideal for boots, but works well for sneakers, low-cut shoes, and similar types.

Additionally, with larger PAX models, you can install height-adjustable shelves to customize the compartments perfectly.

My advice: If you have the space, plan for several smaller compartments rather than one large one, so the shoes remain visible and easier to access.

Hope this helps you a bit!

Yes, there are.

- Use adjustable-height shelves for shoes.
- Drawers with dividers help keep smaller shoes organized.
- Wire baskets provide ventilation, which is good for shoes.

PAX is flexible enough if you adjust the compartment height accordingly.

That is correct and important to keep in mind. Additionally, I can mention that IKEA offers various inserts specifically for the PAX system that can be used in the drawers to store shoes securely and neatly. These include divider elements made of plastic or wood that allow for customized compartments.

Moreover, the shelves in the PAX system, made of metal or wood, are very durable, which is especially beneficial for heavy winter shoes or boots. For very tall boots or large shoes, it is advisable to combine shelves with sufficient vertical space to prevent deforming the footwear.

I want to emphasize that the modular nature of the PAX system shows its strengths in shoe storage as well. However, one should not expect a perfect, shoe-specific solution, but rather that the user must create an individual and practical combination using the available modules and inserts.

So, if you primarily want to store shoes neatly and accessibly for everyday use, PAX definitely offers practical options. It is recommended to carefully measure the available space in the PAX system and compare it with the dimensions of the shoes to plan the layout optimally.
