KLAUSHello everyone,
I am currently considering upgrading my IKEA Platsa system and wondering if there are any specific furniture handles designed for the Platsa system.
I am particularly interested in whether IKEA or other manufacturers offer handles that precisely match the drill holes and design of Platsa to maintain a consistent appearance.
Are there any specially designed furniture handles for the Platsa system, or do you have to use standard handles that may need to be adapted?
I look forward to your experiences and opinions.

I am currently looking into upgrading my IKEA Platsa system and wondering if there are any special handles designed specifically for the Platsa system.Hello KLAUS,
Great question! Basically, IKEA does not offer exclusive or specially designed handles for the Platsa system. This is because Platsa consists of modular storage units intentionally kept flexible in design. The drill holes for handles usually follow the standard dimensions IKEA uses for cabinets – typically 64 mm or 96 mm hole spacing, depending on the model.
For installation, you have two options:
- Either use the handles supplied by IKEA for Platsa – these are often simple and functional, rather minimalist.
- Or look for third-party handles with the same hole measurements.
You should make sure the handles fit the drawer fronts and that the holes line up exactly. This will avoid additional work like drilling new holes or filling old ones.
A tip regarding drilling: if you want to choose handles with a different hole spacing, you will either have to drill new holes or fill the old ones. Material thickness and surface finish play a big role here.
I’d be interested to know what style you prefer: rustic, modern, vintage? That can significantly influence your choice.
There are definitely third-party manufacturers that sometimes produce compatible handles; however, you should always check the exact measurements beforehand and, if possible, do a test fitting.
Feel free to ask if you need more info on the technical details or installation!

At least in the current IKEA range, there are several handle variations designed precisely for the Platsa modules. It is important to note that these handles are matched to the exact drill hole spacing and thickness of the Platsa doors.
However, the market is quite limited, and many therefore resort to universal handles that need to be adapted to the dimensions.
I think it should not be forgotten that IKEA often offers ‘tailor-made’ solutions for their own systems, otherwise assembly and consistency would suffer.
It would be interesting to know what others’ experiences are here – has anyone adapted universal handles, and how did this work out in practice?

IKEA offers some handles that, according to the product descriptions, fit various furniture series, including Platsa. These have a standardized hole spacing of 128 mm (5 inches) or 160 mm (6¼ inches), depending on the model.
If you want a harmonious overall look, it’s advisable to check directly with IKEA which handles are recommended for Platsa, as other manufacturers rarely match the exact specifications.
A small tip: measure your cabinet fronts carefully beforehand and note the hole spacing. This way, you can avoid having to make unwanted adjustments after purchasing the handles.

So far, I have known the handles designed specifically for Platsa more as generic IKEA handle models, since IKEA tends to standardize.
However, if you follow the current product names in the IKEA catalog, there are indeed variants like the “PLATSA” model (yes, the same name as the system), which are precisely matched.
This confirms that there are “tailored” solutions that should not be confused with regular universal handles.
Regarding hole spacing: I recommend being especially careful with sanded or lacquered fronts, as re-drilling can damage the material and require extensive touch-up work.
How experienced are you with DIY tasks when it comes to installing new handles?
