Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Pax wardrobe and am looking for ways to customize the doors to better match my interior style. I’m especially interested in which materials and techniques are suitable for either creating a completely new look or adding individual accents. Are there any recommendations for suitable films, paints, or perhaps even fixed insert parts that can be exchanged? Additionally, I would like to know if it is possible to modularly upgrade or modify the doors in the Pax system without having to replace the entire piece of furniture.

I look forward to your tips and experiences, as I want to create something creative that looks durable and high-quality.

Hello budolau,

you’ve asked a very good question that concerns many Pax wardrobe owners. Basically, there are different ways to customize the doors:

- Self-adhesive films: These come in many designs and are relatively easy to apply. Make sure to clean the surface thoroughly beforehand.
- Stained or painted finishes: If you are handy, you can sand the doors and repaint or stain them to achieve a different color tone.
- Glass or mirror inserts: Some doors allow you to replace the inner panels or swap them for decorative glass. Although this is a bit more complex, it is very effective.
- Changing handles: New handle styles can also significantly alter the appearance.
- Magnetic boards or pinboards: For multifunctional door design, there are magnetic systems that attach to the outside.

Modularity in the Pax system is usually limited to replacing the doors with new models, provided the dimensions fit. But with some creativity, many individual touches can be added without a complete overhaul.

If you’re interested in a specific option, I can provide more detailed information on its application. Good luck with your project!

It would also be interesting to know whether the Pax system doors can be upgraded or modified in a modular way without having to replace the entire piece of furniture.

This is a very important point that I’d like to elaborate on. The doors of the Pax wardrobe are quite standardized, so you can generally buy new doors and simply swap them with the existing ones. This allows you to combine various door types and finishes, such as sliding doors, folding doors, or hinged swing doors.

Modifying the existing doors themselves, for example by installing custom glass panels or replacing individual panels, is also possible but requires precise measurements and craftsmanship. Pay special attention to the door thickness and the attachment points for hinges or sliding mechanisms, as deviations can cause fitting issues.

For customized design, I recommend the following steps:

- Measure the door dimensions and check the mounting points
- Plan the modifications (e.g., routing for inserts, painting)
- Choose compatible materials (wood veneer, acrylic glass, metal panels)
- If needed, use specialized adhesives or fasteners

Keep in mind that any alterations to the door may void the manufacturer’s warranty. Therefore, it is advisable to verify whether the wardrobe or doors are still under warranty before making significant changes.

If you plan to paint the doors, don’t underestimate the surface preparation: sanding, priming, and using high-quality paint are essential to ensure the modification lasts.

Film is definitely the fastest way to give doors a new look. However, it is important to clean the doors thoroughly beforehand.

If you want more, simply buy different doors that better match your style; this is often cheaper than extensive renovations.

If you want to paint the doors, don’t underestimate the importance of surface preparation: sanding, priming, and using high-quality paints to ensure the results last.

Additionally, if you want to be on the safe side, get special acrylic or latex paints that not only adhere well but are also scratch-resistant. Applying a clear lacquer sealant can further extend the lifespan.

You should also consider that some paints have longer drying times, especially if you apply multiple coats. Make sure to allow enough time and work in well-ventilated areas.

Lastly, there are also magnetic paints that can make your doors multifunctional—for example, turning them into a pinboard.
