Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of furnishing a small bedroom as efficiently as possible using IKEA Brimnes furniture. The main focus is on integrating the wardrobe optimally, as the room is quite limited in size (about 9 m² (97 sq ft)). I am wondering how to make the best use of the Brimnes storage options without making the space feel too cramped.

For example: Is it better to choose the large wardrobe model or to combine several smaller wardrobes or dressers? How do you find using the Brimnes drawers under the bed, in case you want storage space there? And do you have any tips on how to keep the overall look and color scheme light and visually less bulky in a small bedroom?

For me, it is particularly important not only to be practical but also to create a pleasant atmosphere, as I want to spend a lot of time relaxing in this room. I would appreciate your detailed experiences and recommendations, especially if you have done something similar with Brimnes furniture.

In my opinion, it makes sense to opt for the larger wardrobe when the room is relatively small. This is because a single, continuous wardrobe usually saves more space compared to several smaller pieces of furniture that often require extra floor area due to gaps in between. The Brimnes series scores well with its efficiently designed interior compartments and relatively shallow depth, which is a significant advantage for small rooms.

Regarding bed storage: Brimnes beds with drawers are indeed space-saving and make optimal use of the space under the bed, provided the ceiling height and mattress thickness allow for it.

For color choices, I recommend selecting light shades – white or light gray and beige tones from the Brimnes range help to enhance the sense of spaciousness. Avoid dark furniture in a confined room, as it tends to make the space feel even smaller.

To plan this effectively, it’s helpful to start with a detailed sketch of the room including all measurements (windows, door, radiator, electrical outlets). Brimnes wardrobes come in various widths and depths, so you should tailor your choices to fit your space.

I recommend the following:

- Use the Brimnes modular system to take advantage of height. A taller wardrobe (for example, 2 m (6 ft 7 in) or more) helps optimize vertical storage without significantly increasing the floor area.

- Choose a dresser to place next to or under the window that isn’t too bulky, so it doesn’t block natural light.

- The drawers under the Brimnes bed provide excellent storage for seasonal clothing or bed linens. Important: check how much space there actually is between the mattress and the floor, as this varies depending on the bed frame model.

- Color scheme: white makes the room appear larger and airier. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider using pastel-colored back panels or individual elements to add cozy accents.

- Avoid adding large extra furniture pieces that take up space you can’t afford. Sometimes less is more.

What are the exact dimensions of your room? And how wide is your bed? Then we could discuss specific furniture combinations.

Exactly! And when it comes to furniture for small rooms, practical features like drawers under the bed are invaluable. It’s remarkably clever how IKEA utilizes the space beneath the sleeping area – this is usually the biggest wasted space in small bedrooms.

I have a Brimnes bed with storage drawers myself, and it’s very comfortable because you can neatly store blankets, pillows, and clothes while still having enough room to move around. 😄

One more tip: a light-colored rug that matches the furniture can visually elongate the space and tie everything together into a harmonious look.

And don’t worry about “too much white” – with a few colorful cushions or decorative elements, the room still feels lively and personal.

How to use Brimnes in small bedrooms:

- A large wardrobe with plenty of storage takes up less floor space than several smaller ones.
- Bed with drawers for extra organization.
- Choose light-colored furniture.
- Keep pathways clear.

That's it. It's that simple.
