Hello everyone, I am currently exploring ways to make IKEA Hemnes furniture more efficient and functional in the bedroom. The Hemnes series is quite popular due to its classic design and sturdy construction, but I feel there is still room for improvement in the bedroom area—whether through better space utilization, innovative storage solutions, or a more harmonious integration with other furniture pieces.

I am especially interested in how to create more storage without making the room feel cramped, and what clever additions or modifications you would recommend to enhance the functionality and comfort of Hemnes furniture in the bedroom. Do you have specific tips, experiences, or even DIY adjustments you have made? What worked well for you, and what didn’t? Looking forward to exchanging ideas!

The best solution is to make use of the space under the bed by adding suitable boxes or drawers. Hemnes beds are well suited for this kind of expansion. Additionally, wardrobes can be optimized with extra internal organizers.

In our bedroom, I added self-adhesive LED strips to Hemnes dressers – it immediately creates a cozier atmosphere and looks really stylish. For extra storage in tight spaces, small hanging organizers for shoes or accessories are very helpful. By the way, sometimes a few plants work wonders to loosen up the classic Hemnes corner 😉.

To truly optimize the IKEA Hemnes furniture in your bedroom, a thorough analysis of the existing room dimensions and usage requirements is essential. Hemnes provides a solid foundation, but the furniture is generally not specifically designed for small spaces or multifunctional use. Therefore, I recommend the following steps: - Measure the bedroom, focusing on unused niches and corners. - Plan additional modular storage systems that can be integrated both within Hemnes units and alongside them. - Especially for Hemnes wardrobes, custom interior fittings (e.g., drawer inserts, dividers) are advisable, as they can significantly increase storage capacity. - Traditional pieces like nightstands can also be repurposed into multifunctional storage solutions. - To improve ergonomics and tactile feel, you might experiment with replacing handles and adding extra fittings. An important point is stability: Hemnes furniture is more often made of solid wood rather than particleboard, so any modifications should be carefully planned to avoid compromising durability. Finally, a question for you: How large is your bedroom and which Hemnes furniture pieces are you currently using?

Just one last question for you: How large is your bedroom and which pieces from the Hemnes series are you currently using?

Thank you for your detailed reply, Dilen! My bedroom is about 14 square meters (150 square feet), rectangular in shape, with a relatively low ceiling height of 2.45 meters (8 feet). At the moment, I have a Hemnes bed, two nightstands, and the two-door wardrobe. The main challenge for me is the rather narrow walkway between the bed and the wardrobe. In addition, I lack storage options for bedding and small items — the nightstands are already quite full. If there are practical solutions to expand the existing furniture, I would prefer that before considering purchasing completely new pieces.

With a 14 sqm (150 sq ft) bedroom and the combination of the Hemnes bed, nightstands, and wardrobe, I would primarily focus on vertical storage solutions. Hemnes shelves or wall-mounted boards above the bed or wardrobe often create unused storage space without visually shrinking the room. It is also worth looking inside the wardrobe: installing Kallax boxes or stackable baskets helps to better organize smaller textiles and accessories. Another option is replacing the bed frame slats with models that include under-bed storage – this provides additional storage without major modifications. Above all, I would recommend keeping the lighting and color scheme bright and clear, as this greatly enhances the sense of space.
