Hello everyone, I have fronts made of real wood on my Ikea Metod kitchen, specifically a veneer with a matte surface coating. Now I’m looking for a gentle and durable method to clean these wooden elements without damaging them or causing them to look worn and brittle over time.

Which cleaning products and techniques are best suited to care for the wood while effectively removing dirt, grease, and fingerprints?

I would appreciate practical tips that I can do myself at home, without needing special products or risking damage to the wood. If anyone has recommendations on the right type of cloth, cleaning technique, or even suitable household remedies, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

For cleaning Ikea Metod fronts made of real wood with a matte finish, I recommend the following:

- Avoid aggressive cleaning agents that contain solvents or alcohol, as they can damage the finish.
- Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth.
- Lightly dampened with water, the cloth is sufficient to remove dust and light dirt.
- For grease stains, a mild solution of neutral dish soap and lukewarm water works well. Apply it gently with the cloth, then wipe with clean water to remove any residue.
- Afterwards, dry the fronts with a dry cloth to prevent water spots.

This method is gentle and helps preserve the protective layer of the wood over time.

I wonder if this recommendation applies to all types of matte finishes, especially for IKEA cabinet fronts, which sometimes have a surface sealant that can be sensitive to liquids.

Has it been verified that cleaning with a dish soap solution does not damage the surface in the long term?

It might also be helpful to discuss the impact of moisture and cleaning frequency.

Can anyone share experience regarding whether heavy use (e.g., in heavily used kitchens) leads to changes in the wood or finish?

This is a very valid question. Generally, Ikea Metod fronts are sealed with plastic or polyurethane coatings, which are resistant to light moisture exposure. However, the fronts should not be submerged in water or left wet for extended periods.

From my experience, as already recommended, using only slightly damp cloths and mild cleaning agents is best. Additionally, you should:

- Avoid abrasive sponges or brushes,
- Refrain from using any abrasive or alcohol-based cleaners,
- Thoroughly dry the fronts after cleaning, as standing moisture can cause discoloration.

I also sometimes use a gentle wood care product suitable for coated surfaces to help maintain durability. But please test it first in an inconspicuous area.

In summary: the right cleaning intensity and careful handling are essential.
