Hello everyone,

I am planning to build a new shelving unit using Ikea Platsa furniture but am a bit uncertain about the assembly options. Specifically, I would like to know: Are there Ikea Platsa pieces that can be assembled entirely without screws? So far, I have only seen the standard versions, which usually require screws, dowels, and connectors for assembly.

Are there any variants, special modules, or additional systems that allow for a screw-free build? If so, can this also be stable in the long term, or are these mainly suitable for lighter applications?

I look forward to your insights and experiences – a detailed explanation about assembling Platsa without screws would be greatly appreciated.

No, all Platsa modules require screws for assembly. The screws are essential for stability.

Platsa is basically modular, but screws are always required for assembly. Without screws, it will not hold together.

Hello peomalin,

your question about a screwless assembly of Ikea Platsa is quite valid. Ikea uses sturdy connecting elements for Platsa, but these rely on screws to ensure durability and load-bearing capacity.

There are some types of snap-fit connections in other furniture series that do not require screws, but Platsa is usually not one of them.

Theoretically, it would be possible to build modularly with special snap-fit systems, but these are not included in the Platsa product range and would require custom modifications or adaptations.

I recommend using the supplied screws for Platsa, as the furniture could otherwise be unstable.

That matches exactly my assumption, thank you for the confirmation.

However, I had read somewhere that Platsa also offers connectors that can possibly “snap” together without screws. Does anyone know about such components, or is that just theoretical?

How complex would such modifications be? Would it be enough to modify the connectors, or would it require building entirely new frames?

I have Platsa at home and can say: Without screws, nothing works. Sure, some parts snap into place, but that alone is not enough for stability.
