Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of an IKEA METOD kitchen unit and want to create especially flexible storage space. My question is, how can I build IKEA METOD kitchen units to make the best use of storage and allow for flexible expansion or adjustment? I am thinking about the right selection and installation of cabinets, drawers, and interior organizers, as well as planning tips to easily accommodate different needs in the future. Do any of you have experience with custom solutions within this system that have proven particularly effective? It is important to me to enable both space-saving setups and easy modifications later on.

That's exactly what I wanted to say: construction phases under time pressure can be stressful. Try to break the assembly into small, manageable sections and take breaks. Flexible storage may also require rethinking habits. But the investment in a well-planned METOD system pays off in the long run – also in terms of quality of life.

Thank you, that really helps me see the individual points in a structured way. I’m especially interested in whether there are significant quality differences among the interior organizer components—specifically, which parts are particularly durable and robust, able to support a lot of weight? For example, for pots and pans.

IKEA generally offers sturdy quality in their internal organizer elements, but: - Metal drawer runners with full extension and soft-close mechanisms are more durable than simple plastic solutions. - For pots and pans, I recommend metal wire baskets, as they are stable and allow air circulation. - Pay attention to the maximum weight capacity of the drawers; METOD cabinets typically support up to 20-25 kg (44-55 lbs) per drawer. - Individual internal drawers can be reinforced with additional supports if you plan to store heavier items.

Generally, yes. The metal drawer slides with soft-close are the core for durable and sturdy solutions. A tip: check the components in the IKEA showroom before purchasing – they can vary noticeably in handling. Additionally, I recommend paying attention to the drawer bottoms for heavy kitchen utensils; they should be thick enough and securely mounted, typically made of MDF or wood laminate.

A few words on durability: A common mistake is trying to put too much weight into a single drawer. It is better to distribute the load by using multiple drawers. The METOD drawers are well designed, but every system has its limits. I also recommend using tie-down bars or anti-slip mats in the drawers to prevent heavy items from sliding around.

For pots, sturdy pull-outs with metal frames and wooden bases are best. Lower-quality plastic does not last long.
