Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of an IKEA METOD kitchen unit and want to create especially flexible storage space. My question is, how can I build IKEA METOD kitchen units to make the best use of storage and allow for flexible expansion or adjustment? I am thinking about the right selection and installation of cabinets, drawers, and interior organizers, as well as planning tips to easily accommodate different needs in the future. Do any of you have experience with custom solutions within this system that have proven particularly effective? It is important to me to enable both space-saving setups and easy modifications later on.

Technically speaking, the METOD systems are designed for modular reconfiguration, which simplifies flexible interior layouts. Therefore, it is advisable to have a clear plan from the start, including all measurements and intended use – as well as potential future modifications. Ceiling height should also be taken into account, as taller units provide more storage space. For maximum flexibility, I recommend combining tall cabinets and base cabinets and replacing the fronts with variable opening options if needed (drawers, doors with internal pull-outs).

That sounds like a good approach. How sturdy are the connections between these different cabinet components? Is it still easy to modify the kitchen setup later without having to take everything apart? I’m asking because I’m still considering whether to go for a simple low-height option in the long run, to make renovations or replacements easier and faster.

The connections are very stable because IKEA uses special fittings and screw systems that allow for disassembly and reassembly. However, you should avoid taking the components apart completely too often, as the fasteners can lose some of their grip over time. For occasional modifications, these systems are very suitable. A secure wall mounting is essential in this case.

I would like to add that the assembly instructions for IKEA METOD are quite detailed, which makes remodeling easier. Important: Especially during the initial assembly, document exactly where each screw goes – this is very helpful for later modifications. The use of cam locks for connections is common; they are very durable and easy to handle for non-professionals.

A small detail that is often overlooked: Securing furniture to the wall provides stability and safety, especially for tall cabinets. It is essential to use the correct type of wall plug and screws for your wall type. This makes any future modifications easier and safer, as the base elements are securely fixed. If you are unsure, it may be worth consulting a professional.

Thank you all for the helpful tips. In summary, I will: - opt for modular base and tall cabinets with fully extendable drawers - carefully check the quality of the interior fittings and materials - carry out the installation very carefully and with documentation - pay attention to using suitable anchors and screws for wall mounting

If anyone has any advice on how to best plan the interior fittings for flexible storage space, I would appreciate it!
