I am especially interested in how to properly care for the surfaces during daily use. Are there any specific cleaning products that are suitable, or should I generally avoid harsh cleaners? How should I deal with small scratches or signs of wear and tear, which are almost inevitable in everyday life? Maybe someone can also share tips on how to protect the furniture from stains or water without damaging the material. I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!
The BRIMNES furniture from IKEA is generally made of coated MDF panels with a smooth, painted surface. For maintenance, it is important not to use abrasive or harsh cleaning agents, as these can permanently damage the surface. Mild soapy water or cleaning products specifically designed for painted furniture are recommended. Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning and wipe the furniture dry afterwards to prevent water spots.
For minor scratches, furniture care products can sometimes help to visually reduce their appearance. The best protection against stains and water is to wipe up any liquids immediately and to always use coasters or tablecloths. Ideally, the furniture should not be exposed to direct, intense sunlight for extended periods, as UV radiation can gradually affect the paint finish.

I understand that with furniture like this, which often has a modern and simple look, it’s important to maintain its appearance. It happened to me that despite all precautions, a glass tipped over – and I wasn’t sure if the surface would quickly become stained afterward. From my experience, it’s crucial to clean up any liquid very quickly to avoid water spots or rings. A special care oil also helped me, which I occasionally rub in with a cloth, especially if the furniture starts to look a bit dull. However, I’m not entirely sure if this is ideal for BRIMNES furniture; maybe someone has more specific recommendations?
I also find it reassuring to hear from others about how they deal with small scratches or whether repair kits are recommended.

Such oils can soften or discolor the lacquer layer. Instead, products specifically designed for painted surfaces or melamine resin finishes are advisable.
If the furniture appears dull, regular cleaning with a mild detergent and polishing with a soft cotton cloth also helps.

I fix scratches with furniture touch-up markers in matching colors from the hardware store. That is indeed a practical tip. It is important to pay attention to matching color tones. Additionally, it is recommended to clean the surface beforehand to ensure good adhesion of the marker.
