Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my IKEA Pax wardrobe solution, specifically focusing on optimizing shoe storage. Since I own a wide variety of shoes, from sports shoes to elegant dress shoes and boots, I am wondering: What interior fittings work best with Pax for storing shoes?

What should be considered to use the available space efficiently while keeping the shoes accessible and well organized? Which combinations of shelves, shoe drawers, boxes, or special shoe racks are recommended?

I am also interested in how useful it is to combine certain interior fittings with lighting or special materials to protect sensitive leather shoes, for example.

I would really appreciate any tips, personal experiences, or specific recommendations! Thanks in advance.

Great question! I have a Pax system myself with a combination of fixed shelves and pull-out shoe drawers. My advice:

- Fixed shelves are ideal for sneakers and trainers, as they are easily accessible and can be stacked.
- Shoe drawers work well for dress shoes or delicate pairs, keeping dust out.
- For boots, use tall compartments without many shelves to prevent them from bending.

And a small tip: a little LED lighting inside the wardrobe not only creates a nice atmosphere but also makes it much easier to find the right shoes in the morning — plus it looks cool 😄.

Exactly, that’s an important point. For my Pax wardrobe, I used the following setup, which I highly recommend:

- Spacious shoe drawers at the bottom with a slanted display, specifically designed for flat shoes. This way, everything is immediately visible.
- Adjustable shelves in the middle to accommodate different shoe heights optimally. It’s important to choose shelves that are as sturdy as possible so that heavy winter boots don’t sag.
- For the boot section, I use compartment heights of at least 40 cm (16 inches) to keep the boots upright and preserve the leather structure. Additionally, it’s helpful to insert lightly padded boot shapers here to maintain the shape.
- Regarding materials: I deliberately avoid plastic boxes because they hinder air circulation. Instead, I use thin, breathable fabric boxes that I can remove when needed.

I recommend defining the exact number of shoes beforehand and placing the most frequently used pairs in easily accessible areas. You might also consider whether special drawers with ventilation holes make sense to prevent odors.

I would also be interested to know which types of shoes and how many exactly you want to store, so I can give you more specific advice.

I use adjustable shelves combined with shoe drawers divided into shallow and deep compartments. For boots, either a dedicated compartment or boot holders. No boxes, as they restrict airflow.
