ᐅ Which Ikea Pax wardrobes have sliding doors instead of hinged doors?

LijonHello everyone,
I am currently planning to get an Ikea Pax wardrobe and am particularly interested in models with sliding doors instead of the classic hinged doors. My apartment doesn’t have much space, so swinging doors would be inconvenient.
Could someone provide an overview or at least examples of which Ikea Pax wardrobes come standard with sliding doors? I am especially interested in information about the different sizes and door front options.
Are there any special considerations regarding the interior fittings or installation? I would prefer not to be surprised when I look at the doors in person.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Hello Lijon,
Your question can be answered well, but there are some important details about Ikea Pax wardrobes with sliding doors that you should know in order to make the best choice for your needs.
Basically, Ikea offers the Pax system with both traditional hinged doors and sliding doors. However, sliding doors are not available as standard for all cabinet sizes and versions. Ikea sells sliding doors in various widths that are designed to fit specific Pax cabinet frames. Typical widths for the sliding door models are 50 cm (20 inches) and 100 cm (39 inches) per door, which means that for a 100 cm (39 inch) wide wardrobe with sliding doors, you usually use two 50 cm (20 inch) doors that slide in front of the cabinet.
Keep in mind that the sliding doors consist of aluminum frames with panels made of wood, glass, or mirror. This affects the weight and the assembly steps. The sliding mechanism set is sold separately or included with some complete sets.
An important point is the interior layout: sliding doors allow deeper use of the storage space since no swing zone is needed for the doors. However, sliding doors are somewhat less flexible when it comes to later modifications – for example, adding internal drawers or clothes rails requires more planning. Also, the sliding track for the doors must be fixed at the top and bottom, which should be carefully considered well before assembly.
I would recommend first deciding on your preferred cabinet width and height and then looking specifically for matching sliding doors in the range. If you have exact measurements, I’d be happy to help you compare options.
A quick question: How much space do you have for the wardrobe in width and depth? And what type of interior fittings do you particularly value? That way, more precise recommendations can be provided.

To answer your question, Lijon, here is a brief overview regarding Ikea Pax wardrobes with sliding doors:
- Sliding doors are available for three main carcass widths: 50 cm (20 inches), 75 cm (30 inches), and 100 cm (40 inches), with 75 cm being somewhat less common.
- For each width, matching sliding doors with the appropriate running mechanism are available.
- The standard heights are 201 cm (79 inches) or 236 cm (93 inches), depending on the carcass height model.
It is important to know that sliding doors for the Pax system are not simply interchangeable with hinged doors; a separate accessory set including fittings and tracks is required. Additionally, your wardrobe must exactly match the dimensions for which the doors are intended.
As TEBILO already mentioned, there are various front materials available—wood finish, mirror, white, anthracite, etc.—which you can choose according to your preference.
Here are a few additional tips:
- The sliding rails require a flat and stable base; I have personally experienced issues with uneven floors.
- If you place the wardrobe in a dusty room, the tracks should be cleaned occasionally to ensure smooth operation.
If you like, I can provide a specific example configuration with sliding doors by width.

My apartment doesn’t have much space, so the doors swinging open is rather impractical. For that exact reason, sliding doors are often chosen for the Pax system.
Here are the key points:
- Ikea offers sliding doors in widths of 100 cm and 150 cm (two doors of 50 cm each or a combination of 50 cm and 100 cm).
- The sliding door systems are internally called “Pax sliding doors with inward pull”; they are modular.
- The mounting system and tracks differ fundamentally from hinged doors, so planning is important.
It is also interesting that sliding doors in the Pax wardrobe provide more usable depth since the interior space remains fully accessible without doors swinging inward. This is ideal for tight spaces.
The front options include wood and mirror finishes as well as high-quality glass fronts (frosted or clear). So there is a wide variety to choose from.
Important: Not every Pax carcass is suitable for sliding doors. You need to select a carcass that is compatible (standard depths: 35 cm or 58 cm). Sliding doors are usually designed for 58 cm depth.
In short: Ikea Pax wardrobes with widths of 100 cm and depths of 58 cm or larger (150 cm width) are generally available with sliding door options.
Pax wardrobes with sliding doors are usually available in widths of 100 cm (40 inches) and 150 cm (60 inches).
The matching doors come as two-panel sliding doors that run in front of the cabinet.
The depth for sliding door wardrobes is typically 58 cm (23 inches).
Assembly instructions for sliding doors differ from hinged doors, as a track is mounted at both the top and bottom.
