Hello everyone, after recently moving, I unpacked our IKEA Malm furniture and noticed that some areas are worn and look a bit unattractive. Due to the move, there are not only small scratches but also slightly dusty surfaces and some misaligned drawers.
My goal is to refresh the furniture so that it looks almost like new again, without having to completely redo the surface or repaint it. So, it’s more about gentle restoration: cleaning, minor repairs, and, if needed, surface care.
Does anyone have experience with the best way to approach this? Which products or tools are suitable? And how can misaligned drawers be properly adjusted? I look forward to your tips and advice, thank you!

For additional information: Malm furniture typically has a surface coating made of melamine foil. This coating is durable but can be susceptible to damage from excessive mechanical stress.
A pH-neutral cleaner should be used for cleaning. For scratches, color-matched repair felt pads or markers are available; simply apply and remove any excess material.
The drawers feature roller glides or metal runners, which can be adjusted with basic tools. Regular maintenance and keeping the glide rails dust-free improve functionality.
Avoid refinishing with waxes, as this can discolor the surface.

You mentioned that some drawers are misaligned – have you tried removing them and checking the slides separately? Sometimes it’s just a few screws that have come loose.
Keep at it, it’s worth it! If you like, feel free to share how you proceed, maybe we can find some more tips together. 🙂

When removing the drawers, you should inspect the slides for any damage or deformation and clean them if necessary. For adjusting the drawers, the screws on the slides are sometimes secured with plastic clips that need to be carefully released. Instructions for this can be easily found online at IKEA.
This ensures smooth opening and closing, which significantly improves the quality of the furniture.
