Hello everyone, I recently assembled some furniture from the IKEA Hemnes series, mainly dressers and nightstands. Unfortunately, some of them are quite wobbly, even though I tightened all the screws and made sure the shelves are properly positioned. Does anyone have helpful tips or tricks on how to improve the stability of Hemnes furniture? I’m especially interested in whether there are specific fasteners, connection methods, or additional measures that can be applied to make the furniture more stable. Thanks in advance for your support!
Hello KLOKJELL, it is really important to go through the construction step by step. With HEMNES furniture, it makes sense to first check all the joints, especially the back panel. This is often fixed with small nails, which don’t always provide enough stability. My advice is to additionally secure the back panel with small brackets or even screws. Using wood glue on the joints and lightly roughening the surfaces beforehand also improves adhesion. Additionally, be careful not to tighten the screws too much, as this can damage the wood fibers and actually reduce stability.
I understand very well how annoying it can be when furniture wobbles. I had the same issue several times with my HEMNES dressers. What I found especially important was to patiently check that all parts fit perfectly flush. Sometimes, the instructions alone can feel a bit confusing, but if you carefully inspect the back panel, connection screws, and feet, it usually gets better. Small unevenness in the floor can have a huge impact. It’s also important not to get frustrated – sometimes a fresh perspective and a bit of patience help a lot. Maybe you could also mention which specific pieces of furniture you’re referring to?

The back panels on my dressers are really made from very thin material. What screw size would you recommend to avoid putting too much stress on the material? Also, the legs on the bedside tables are a bit wobbly—can I do anything about that?
